Wondering if doulaing is right for you?

There is a one day workshop that aims to answer your questions before you commit to full doula training. Take a look at the link below and also read Journey to Being a Doula.

List of Doula UK Recognised courses

Which course to choose?

Listed below are the doula courses that are Recognised by Doula UK. This means that they follow the Core Curriculum designed by Doula UK’s experienced doulas. Our Recognised courses, which we refer to as Initial Doula Preparation, are all taught by experienced doulas and are regularly inspected and monitored. The wide choice reflects a flexibility towards accommodating each novice doula’s needs.

Please note that membership of DUK is dependent on the completion of a Doula UK Recognised course.

Doula courses not listed here may be accredited by external awarding bodies but they do not entitle you to join Doula UK, with all its benefits, on completion.
If you are in any doubt about this please contact us.

Why choose a Doula UK recognised course?

It gives you the opportunity to belong to the UK’s leading doula network. We are a non-profit organisation, with over eight years experience and hundreds of doulas all over the UK.All our doulas are individually supported and mentored as they begin to work with families. Do contact one of our doulas to find out more.

Our doulas are listed here on the free Find a Doula pages.Being listed on our “Find a Doula” page is – as many of our doulas will tell you - one of the most effective ways of securing work as a doula. We are NOT an Agency – this is free to parents too. We have an online Forum, our Doulaing magazine 3 times a year and an enewsletter. Doula UK’s Hardship Fund can help provide a doula where there is genuine financial need. We also run a doula Voucher Scheme. Many of our doulas are involved within various NHS projects as well as Sure Start schemes, meaning there is a wealth of information, experience and support available within our network.

The table below gives a brief summary of what each Doula UK Recognised course offers, but please contact the training organisation directly for more information before deciding which course is right for you. Or learn more about it all by doing the Introductory Workshop above. Courses are listed in alphabetical order.

For trainee/newly recognised doulas there is also a one day workshop focusing on the practical aspects of working as a doula.
Take a look at 'Preparing to work as a Doula'.

Completion of a Doula UK approved course (ie one of those listed above) is a requirement for all members of Doula UK. (It is of course possible to become a 'friend' of doula UK without completing one of the above courses.)

Please note that there are other courses that teach doula skills, but unless a course is listed here it has not been approved by Doula UK as meeting the appropriate standards. As a result, individuals who have taken courses not listed above will not be eligible for Doula UK membership (other than as a 'friend') unless they then complete one of the above courses.

To apply for membership of Doula UK, either as a doula, having completed one of the above courses, or as a friend, please download the following documents and return the application form to us with the required supporting documents and appropriate fee.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have never been a member of Doula UK previously and you are joining Doula UK between 1st July and 31st December then the pro-rota membership fee is only £25.00.  Those who have been members of Doula UK previoulsy are not eligiable for the pro-rota membeship fee of £25.00 and will therefore be required to pay the full £50.00 membership fee when rejoining Doula UK unless they meet the criteria to apply for the membership concession rate of £25.00. Further details about the concession rate can be found in section 4 of the membership form below.

New membership applications now being accepted for 2010 membership.

We are currently only able to accept membership applications by post.
