The first time I learnt what a doula was, I knew I was one. Recognising birth and postpartum as a rite of passage, I have great respect for this period in a families life. I believe that the way a child enters this world can have a significant effect upon the unfolding of their lives. Whether at home or in hospital, I care deeply and feel passionately about supporting families, offering full spectrum doula support: supporting the full spectrum of reproductive and parenting scenarios.
Since 2013 I have cared for many births in a variety of settings. I also have experience working on labour wards at three different public hospitals in Honduras. Here I assisted Dar a Luz, a grass roots charity, working beautifully to improve maternity services throughout Honduras. I am constantly inspired by the power of intention and positive action.
In my role as a Doula I aim to nourish, supporting you in empowering yourself and being present with what is so that you can make informed personal choices that are right for your unique situation. Throughout our relationship I will listen deeply and get to know you, providing focused, individualised care. Depending on your needs I may offer massage therapy, movement practises, naturopathic tools, rebozo support, awakened belly dance, birth art, herbal guidance, acupressure, and sign posting when helpful. I will be a consistent friendly face throughout your journey and can offer in-person and virtual support.
Postnatally I offer Cerrada ceremonies to help protect, close and nurture your body after the expansiveness and intensity of birth. I also offer exclusive postpartum care, with nutritious meals, debriefing, herbal baths, placenta remedies and other healing support to give you a beautifully held entry into parenthood.
Over the years I have come to realise the value of providing shared care doula services, and so sometimes I also work with a fellow doula to offer multi-layered support. You can see my shared care offerings on my website www.dakinidoulas.com
With a great love for herbs and plant medicine, I also have a cottage industry business making herbal lotions & potions which I often use in my doula work. I recognise that by looking deeply into nature, we will come to understand everything better. I am an advocate of dance, song, the power of pleasure and the wild ways.
Contact me for a free initial meet up/zoom/phone call where we can tune in and decide whether we would like to work with each other.
P.s. In my profile picture I am making a “groaning cake”. It’s a lovely tradition, full of nutritious ingredients and intended for a woman to eat during or after birth.
