If you’ve landed on my profile I’m guessing you’re pregnant or have a newborn- CONGRATULATIONS!
I’m Charlotte, a mum of two, a birth and postnatal doula, and a maternal mental health advocate and facilitator.
I had my first child Lyla in December 2015 and I felt called to become a doula after recovering from postnatal depression at the beginning of 2017. In April of 2019 my son Dougie was born and after a very different experience of postnatal depression I rebranded my business to Charlotte’s Village (check out my website to find out more.)
My focus is always on the mums wellbeing. I believe that if all the mums needs are met really well, this in turn has a positive affect on the whole family and that is what I aim for with every client.
One of the ways I support mums postnatally is through doulaing. I love supporting mums in their own homes; listening to anything the mum needs to offload, cooking delicious healthy food for everyone, and helping with the baby/kids whilst the mum catches up on sleep, showers or just has some ‘me time.’
As a postnatal doula I have worked with children of every age and have vast experience with children from previous jobs as a nanny and an Ofsted registered childminder.
I also offer a batch cooking service in blocks of 3 hours for pregnant and new mums- filling your freezer with nutritious food for the whole family, making the postnatal period a bit easier!
If you like what you read and would like to discuss me being your postnatal doula or any of my other services; feel free to give me a ring or drop me an email, I’d love to hear from you!
“As a new mother who had to go through some unexpected difficulties (as all mums do!) and with no family to support us here in the UK, I really needed that extra pair of hands to help me rest, feel more confident and calm in myself, eat better and enjoy my time with my baby. Charlotte did exactly that, doing whatever was needed in the house, baking lovely cakes and showing me what other support is available out there for new mums. And she is a relatively new mum herself which means she can really relate to your struggles.” Ipek
“Charlotte has been a life saver as a postnatal doula. She is wonderful with my toddler and my newborn alike and is happy to help out with keeping on top of the chaos in the flat too! I look forward to the afternoons she is here as alongside taking the pressure off me looking after 2 under 2 she is wonderful company. Thank you Charlotte!” Beth
“Charlotte was fantastic. I hadn’t planned on looking for a postnatal doula but after a difficult labour and recovery, I knew I needed some extra support and a friend suggested I look into it. I initially asked Charlotte to come twice a week for 4 weeks but soon made the decision to extend. I looked forward to her visits each week – she was great company, often listening to me “download” how I was feeling. She is such a generous listener and gives you the space to share if you want to. She would also cook for us and look after the baby while I napped. In those early days – waking up after a good sleep to the smell of home cooked food was the ultimate luxury! Thank you Charlotte – we miss you!” Emily
“Absolutely loved my TalkWalk with Charlotte in Beckenham Place Park this morning. I was lucky enough to grab a free pilot session with Charlotte who is introducing her Talkwalks in the New Year. A TalkWalk is a ‘walking appointment’ with Charlotte who is a pre & postnatal Doula. During the walk a pregnant woman or mum can chat about anything she needs support with. It’s a chance to just talk and get things off your chest. I found my chat with Charlotte so helpful, I bounced out the park this morning, feeling like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Talking is a great therapy, but combining the talking with a walk around a beautiful park is doubly therapeutic.” Melanie
“I had the chance to share a free sample walk with Charlotte before she fully launched her services. There’s nothing quite like it for mums out there and it’s such a fab idea. Walking side by side in nature got rid of any awkwardness and helped conversation flow towards the personal subjects I wanted to explore within a few minutes. Charlotte is very empathetic, dynamic and friendly and listened carefully, never probed nor pressured, offered gentle guidance and advice, and was also able to share her knowledge about steps to take if I wanted things to be different in my next pregnancy. It would have been so wonderful to meet Charlotte when I felt a bit lost and isolated with my newborn. I thoroughly recommend her walks.” Helene
“It’s so encouraging to know that Charlotte’s focus is on mums. Raising children is hard and having the opportunity to say so is really powerful. It felt like such a safe space which I really needed. Thank you so much!” Melissa
“Charlotte was brilliant and exactly what I needed in a doula. My labour was very long and even though she barely slept a wink, she was faithfully assisting me; making sure I stayed hydrated, providing positive affirmation and giving me the attention I needed.” Megan
“Charlotte was excellent support. It was obvious that she cared a lot about Megan and therefore I could trust her.” James
“Thank you again Charlotte for your support before, during and after the birth of our daughter. I will definitely recommend you to friends. You are keen to tune in to the mother’s individual needs and wishes and came super prepared for the birth. You were ready to do the extra steps to make me comfortable and relaxed. Both my husband and I benefited from your presence and support. Thanks again :)” Katarina
“Charlotte was approachable, knowledgeable and very friendly. She helped us get through a difficult birth.” Sam & Dan
“Charlotte, for me has been a saviour-even though I had my wonderful supportive husband but having a female who can breath through your labour pains with you at every contraction it got me through labour pretty smoothly. Without you I would have been panicking and all over the place. Thank you for taking care of my daughter as well through labour as that gave me peace of mind and I was able to concentrate on bringing my baby into this world. Xxx” Sandra
I trained to be a doula with Kicki Hansard at BirthBliss Academy. I have an enhanced DBS and a clean driving licence.
