About Me
A mother of 4 daughters, my first initiation in the birth work was through my own journey and transformation as a mother 5 times (here i would like to honorably include my early birth and loss ). Every journey was unique and different yet beautiful and with a profound impact to my whole of existence. I had assisted homebirths as well as sovereign unassisted family births and i cherish every moment of every path i had chosen together with my baby as one, for this moment in time.
My first Doula training was with the greek Doula association and it was a life changing experience mostly because Greece is a country with very high rates in c sections and obstetric violence, so being able to learn how to better support women in birth and postpartum, in this particular enviroment was challenging and an enormous honor and reward.
Then i moved in Munich Germany where i joined one of the 2 largest doula organisations and continued to help women in birth and mothering. I trained and got certified as a babywearing and breastfeeding consultant as well as in elimination communication method which added a lot of value and knowledge to my services. These skills are really invalueble tools, packed with ancient feminine wisdom, part of our sacred mothering nature that aid the new mother every step of the way.
A big chapter in my doula carreer and in my mothering journey, was my connection with the freebirth mother and birth activist Sarah Schmidt. I was inspired by her birth experciences and work and through that i begun researching and learning more about natural, undisturbed physiological birth and its profound benefits for the motherbaby unit. A research that led me to my 3 powerful freebirths and my training with the Radical Birthkeeper school of freebirth society. Here i would like to add a couple more mentors/resources of information on natural birth that i got a lot of support and inspiration from like indiebirth, the matrona, Samantha Gasden and Joelle Fauve.
How i see birth and my philosophy around it, is summarised in these words:
*Please don’t misinterpret the use of the word midwifery in the quote, i am not a midwife or medically trained, i dont perform any medical proceedures or perform medical actions under any circumstances in my practice.
The Tao of Midwifery
And so, the Midwife performs
her work by doing nothing.
She teaches without speaking a word.
Things arise and she lets them come.
Things leave and she lets them go.
Creating, not possessing,
Working and laying no claim,
And when her work is done, she forgets it,
And so it lasts forever.
…From the Tao de Ching
Much love,
Dorothea
