Hi – my name is Jean Goodliffe. I live in Kensington with my husband, my dog and one of my two grown up sons. Both my boys were born at Chelsea and Westminster. As an experienced mum I believe that we were never meant to go through birth and caring for newborns on our own. I’m reliable and adaptable and ready to help you in all kinds of practical ways; by soothing your baby while you have a soak in the bath or a sleep; cooking you meals; supporting with breast or bottle feeding. I’m knowledgeable about birth and newborns and can help you negotiate the sometimes confusing overwhelm of information. I’m a sensible and calm mum/aunty figure who can support you in whatever way helps most. A little bit about me: after uni I worked in teaching, publishing and Alexander teaching; after my children were born I worked as a birth doula, Gentle Birth Method practitioner, hypnobirther, NCT teacher and Breastfeeding Counsellor and I’ve recently become a postnatal doula.
Feedback from clients over the years has been that I am a calm and reassuring presence and that I’m very knowledgeable, non-judgmental and open-minded and that I am very good at calming babies and their anxious parents!
Birth service – I live near Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and can sometimes offer back up at short notice.
In the early weeks after a baby is born a woman needs lots of support and help so that she can recover and rest and adjust to being a mum. Far too often women feel that they are alone with this huge experience of caring for their new baby and being a mother for the first time.
The doula philosophy is that ‘the doula mothers the mother, so that the mother can mother the baby’. I will give practical support and show you how to care for your baby so that you become confident with feeding – whether breastfeeding or bottle feeding, I will help you around the house with all the practical things like the washing, cooking, shopping and errands etc.
All this support means that you can focus on bonding with your baby and resting.
I will help you to feel nurtured and will listen to your worries and offer the support you need to make this a happy time for you as a new family.
Please contact me for information or a chat.
