About Me
As a perinatal practitioner and doula, I offer unconditional, non-judgemental support, self-help strategies and evidence-based information to parents-to-be and newborn families across Derbyshire and beyond.
I live in Belper with my partner, two children, a dog and two cats.
I’ve been working with parents in the transition to parenthood since 2006 when my first baby was born. Following a career in higher education (I taught anatomy and physiology at City University) I found myself on maternity leave. Inspired by my antenatal course, I joined NCT as a volunteer and was soon running postnatal support groups, organising branch events, and working on my face painting skills. I quickly realised that I needed to do more to support new families so, following the birth of my second child, I trained with ABM as a Mother Supporter and with UNICEF and the NHS as a Breastfeeding Buddy. By 2015 I was training with NCT to become an Antenatal Practitioner, and in 2017 I added Postnatal Practitioner to my qualifications. In 2020 I found a way to combine my passions; I trained as a birth and postnatal doula with Developing Doulas.
I currently run antenatal and postnatal courses across the region, as well as working one to one as an antenatal, birth and postnatal doula. I am an accredited Rebozo practitioner and a 3-Step Rewind birth trauma release practitioner. I am also a Slingababy babywearing consultant. I run Belper Baby Club, a weekly drop-in group for new parents to find community and support in my local town.
I’m also an artist and a crafter. I have an Etsy shop and a YouTube channel.
I strongly believe that women and birthing people know what they need and want. I see my role as helping expectant and new parents to empower themselves to make decisions that are right for them, find the confidence to trust themselves and their baby, and discover ways to birth and parent that feel authentic. I walk beside families, neither leading nor following. I offer support and information tailored and adaptable to the needs of my clients.
I can’t wait to meet you and find out how I might be able to support you. I usually offer a free “clarity call” over Zoom, so we can have a chat, get to know each other a bit, and work out a way forward. Just get in touch and let’s talk.
