When it comes to significant emotional events in our lives, having a baby certainly rates as one at the top of the list. After coming home with such a precious cargo, parents go through a variety of emotions – thrilled, daunted, frightened, excited, overwhelmed, elated, challenged. Coupled with that, suddenly the sleep fairy goes on vacation when there is a greater need for their services!
There is an expectation that a parent will know just what to do because, well, simply because they’re a parent and instinct surely kicks in? Caring and nurturing a baby is a learning process, and sometimes it helps to have some support and guidance without being judged, questioned or controlled by someone else’s opinions, even if they mean well. Even if this is not baby number one, having a good support system is crucial for everyone’s well-being and is where a Postnatal Doula can be a great asset.
I am a mum of two grown up children. One still lives at home with me and my husband in Harpenden and one lives in Hong Kong, so he has certainly ‘flown the nest’. I remember back to the early weeks after bringing my babies home from hospital, so completely understand the assortment of feelings parents may go through and how emotional and practical support can be crucial in those early weeks.
My background in Leadership & Professional Training gave me invaluable skills in support and guiding whilst respecting my clients’ values and beliefs. The ability to be a good listener was also key. This was always done in an environment of positivity, kindness and laughter. I moved from this career into becoming a Holistic Therapist so am able to offer Massage treatments such as Body Massage, Indian Head Massage, Holistic Facials, Reflexology as an optional extra for postnatal mums and dads – after all, everyone needs a bit of ‘ME’ time!
As a mentored Postnatal Doula I am able to offer my experience and skills in a non-judgmental way. I am a great listener, a very practical person and take great pride in providing support to a mum who might just need that extra bit of assistance to settle into the role of being a parent and some TLC if and when needed. My objective is to support the family, so that your precious baby will get your full attention and allow you to develop the best bond you can possibly achieve.
- Both my husband and I agree that asking Tina into our house as a Postnatal Doula was the best decision we made in the entire pregnancy! With her natural sensitivity and intuition, she slotted perfectly into our family. She has such a sunny spirit and helped to brighten up our slightly shell-shocked and sleep deprived house! Having a planned C-section, no nearby family and with my husband not eligible for paternity leave, I realised that we would need some help around the house. Tina busied herself with the household tasks that would have been beyond me, whilst alternately entertaining my 4 year old and ensuring I was cared for, with drinks and snacks. She also attended to my newborn allowing me some re-bonding space with my older child. She was able to drive our family car which was very useful in those early weeks post-surgery. All in all, she went above and beyond to care for us, and we really missed her when she left! I would 100% recommend Tina to anyone as a Postnatal Doula. RH – Chorleywood
- Tina supported us as Postnatal Doula after the birth of our first baby and made a huge difference to our early weeks. I felt instantly comfortable with Tina being in our home and caring for baby while I managed to get some much needed sleep! Just having someone there with me after my husband went back to work gave me much reassurance and nothing was too much trouble for Tina who would always be thinking ahead to what we might need whether it be a loaf of bread or the dishwasher being unpacked! We will certainly be hoping Tina is free if we have another baby! MJ – Harpenden
- I had heard about postnatal doulas before (and was sure that I wouldn’t need one). And here I was: contacting Tina and asking her to help me. And I should admit that it’s been my best decision ever. Tina supported me with everything, I felt protected and not lonely anymore, I started enjoying my new mum’s journey and it helped me to love my precious little one even more. Every time I think of our new-born period, I think of Tina and our great experience together. I hope my girl will carry through life all the warmth, love, joy and smiles Tina gave us.
