Active Birth teacher trained with Janet Balaskas. Breastfeeding helper with BFN Islington.
My name is Victoria Lemmon, I am a mentored birth doula working in and around North & central London. I am currently working through the Doula UK recognition process with an experienced doula mentor.
As your doula, I will accompany you through your birth preparations and support you during labour, birth and bonding. I will protect your space and keep you feeling held. I am optimistic yet pragmatic, calm and compassionate without judgement or an agenda. My support is unconditional. I do not give medical advice nor do I undertake examinations or perform any other clinical task. I cannot make decisions for you but I am here to help you find your voice or act as your spokesperson when and if appropriate and with prior permission. I can help you communicate with your midwife or other medical care givers to ensure you have all the information you need to make informed decisions during pregnancy, labour, bonding and early parenting.
I can provide continuum of care for you and your partner, make suggestions for planning and preparing your birth and bonding. I am able to make suggestions for labour progress, help you with relaxation, positioning, breathing and other comfort measures. I can safeguard your bonding period and am available for you to debrief your birth experience after the baby is born. I do not come between you and your partner but rather support you both. I am available to help with preparation for feeding (breast, bottle or mixed) and can trouble shoot or refer you on to local services where needed
The package I offer includes 4 antenatal meetings to establish our relationship, work through your birth wishes, dismantle any worries or fears and increase your knowledge and awareness of labour and birth. I will also discuss feeding your baby and early days of Matrescence (the becoming of a mother).
Once our arrangement is confirmed, you will receive some prep documents for the meetings and also have access to birth plans and templates, a small selection of my favourite go to books and websites for best birth related research papers.
You will have my doula support at home from when we agree you need it until you are ready to be on your own after your birth, typically a few hours after the birth and/or after the first feed.
My On call period for you begins 14 days before your due date and runs for 14 days after. I am available 24 hours during the on call period. Before that time you can call or text as much as you want but in ‘sociable’ hours.
I offer one hospital visit & two home visits postnatally within this package Plus unlimited calls/texts/etc for six weeks – 24 hour availability for the first 4 days and sociable hours after that. These visits are to support feeding your baby and debrief your birth experience and any other questions, signposting you may require.
Please note 15% of my fees will be donated to Doula UK to support couples in vulnerable circumstances through the access fund. https://doula.org.uk/support-doula-uk/
I live in North London with my husband and two children, a beautiful daughter aged 10 & a miracle baby boy aged 2, helped into this world by the wonders of IVF treatment.
My own life journey through conception, birth, loss and motherhood have transformed me and I am here with a full heart to support birthing people and couples on their journey to becoming parents.
I trained on the Paramana Doula course taught by the incredible Michel Odent and Liliana Lammers. I am a certified Active Birth teacher by Janet Balaskas.
For 3 years I have been working in the community as a User Rep at our local hospital with the Maternity Voices Partnership (MVP) and I am trained as a breastfeeding helper in our local area. I am insured and DBS checked and actively updating my training through professional development courses.
My past careers have been in the creative industries. Most recently running my own Floristry business. I have a deep love and understanding of flowers, their natural beauty, working with the seasons and nurturing them to flourish for an occasion. Having my own business gave me the flexibility to work around bringing up our children. Its time now to put down my floristry tools to work across the perinatal field to support women and couples to bloom into motherhood.
Walking in nature, dancing around the kitchen, singing (terribly out of key!) and enjoying food and baking are my other personal passions but just being and having fun with my family and friends brings me utter joy. Oh and I’m a huge fan of a self-development book, especially Eckhart Tolle, the power of Now. It’s a staple at my bedside table!
If you like the feel of me, please do get in touch. I am happy to meet/Skype for a chat without any commitment.
I very much look forward to hearing from you. With love X
