Mentored Birth Doula & Mentored Postnatal Doula

Birth and Postnatal doula support in Worthing, East & West Sussex

Hello! I’m Alex, a mum of two young children, a birth and postnatal doula, and a breastfeeding peer supporter. I’m based in Worthing and support families across East and West Sussex.

I am so happy for you that you are exploring doula support for your birth, it’s a real privilege to be part of such an important and transformative time in a family’s life, and being part of your birth team is not something I take lightly.

There's a bit of a myth that you need to want a unmedicated or home birth to want doula support, this isn't the case! I support all kinds of births. However your birth looks, you absolutely deserve to be supported through it.

As your doula, when we meet, I'll take the time to really listen without judgement or pressure. I want to get a true sense of you, your hopes for your birth, anything you’re unsure about, and what kind of support feels right for you. We will figure out a plan together. (If the thought of someone massaging you, or even looking at you gives you the ick or if that sounds perfect, this is when find this stuff out)

I’ll support you to feel more confident in your body's ability, with how birth works, and in building connection with your baby.

Throughout our antenatal meetings, I will become a familiar face, providing you with continuity of care, which isn’t always available through the maternity system, and I’m happy to come along to appointments with you if you’d like.

During labour and birth, I’m right there with you, supporting you physically and emotionally, and making sure your partner feels included and supported too. I will advocate for you, and hold a space where your preferences are heard.

After your baby arrives, I’ll come and visit you at home. I will bring some warm food & snacks, we can talk through your birth, and see how you’re doing now. If you're breastfeeding, I can support you with early latching, positions and feeding cues.

If you’d like ongoing support, I offer ongoing postnatal support in hour bundles so you can be nurtured throughout the fourth trimester too.

Some of the ways I support families postnatally:

  • Encouragement and support in resting as much as possible while you’re in your newborn bubble
  • Bringing you food & drinks and generally looking after you
  • Talking things through and being there if you need reassurance
  • Supporting with feeding, whether that’s breastfeeding, bottles, or a mix
  • Cooking meals or batch cooking for you (I love cooking!)
  • Looking after your baby so you can sleep, shower, or just have a bit of space
  • Helping out with bits around the house like washing up, laundry, or a quick hoover

…and anything else that might help you towards feeling supported and nurtured.

My training and experience includes birth and postnatal doula training with Developing Doulas, and breastfeeding peer support through the NHS.

I’ve supported families with twins and those who have come to parenthood through fertility treatment or donor conception, which is something I also have personal experience of.

I’m part of an LGBTQ+ family, so I really understand how important it is to feel safe, comfortable, and fully accepted. I warmly support LGBTQ+ parents and create a space where you can just be yourselves.

I also have lived experience of neurodiversity and continue to learn how to support neurodivergent parents in a way that feels right for them.

I hold full doula insurance and an enhanced DBS certificate.

If you’d like to talk more and feel like I might be the right fit, I’d love to hear from you.
