Alice May Harvey

Birth Doula

I’m a Birth Doula based in North/East London, supporting women through pregnancy, birth, and the early days with their baby in a way that feels grounded, informed, and deeply supportive. My work brings together practical preparation, nervous system-aware care, and trust in the body’s own intelligence.

I’m a Birth Doula based in North/East London, supporting women who want to feel informed, steady, and deeply supported through pregnancy, birth, and the early days with their baby.

My work sits in the space between practical preparation and embodied care: with one foot in evidence-based research and one in the intuitive aspects of birth that cannot always be measured. I help you understand your options, navigate the maternity system, and build trust in your body and yourself — whatever path your birth takes.

My approach

Together, we prepare for birth in a way that is both practical and personal: understanding how labour works physiologically, exploring your options and “what if” scenarios, getting clear on your preferences, and building the support around you that helps you feel safe and resourced.

In labour, I offer continuous presence and support through breathwork and birth biomechanics, while helping to create the kind of space in which you can feel safe enough to soften, trust, and birth in your own way. I also support your partner to know how to be with you, advocate when needed, and feel more at ease in their role.

I support births across home, birth centre, hospital, and caesarean settings, including first-time births and VBAC.

About me

Before becoming a doula, I spent more than five years as a healthcare researcher across the NHS and US healthcare systems. That means I understand how care works in practice — the policies, the pressures, and the gaps — and I can help you navigate the system with more clarity.

Alongside this, my path into birthwork was shaped by my own journey back to the body: remembering the wisdom of my cycle, reconnecting with my inner compass, and deepening through years of training in breathwork, somatics, bodywork, and trauma-informed care.

This work brought me into a closer relationship with female physiology, and with the inseparable connection between the nervous system and the hormonal unfolding that supports physiological birth. It also helped me understand the kind of support women need in order to soften the mind, drop into the body, and enter the altered state of birth.

Women often come to me because they want support that feels grounded, informed, and deeply attuned — someone who can offer both practical, hands-on support and a steady, grounded presence as labour and birth unfold.
