Alice Williams

Birth Doula

I'm Alice, a doula who blends evidence-based support with genuine care. I understand birth, in all its forms, and prioritise your mental wellbeing, creating a safe space for your unique journey.

Get to know me

Warmest congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm Alice, and I'm truly passionate about supporting families through their birthing journeys.

My path to becoming a doula began with a deep fascination for the natural processes of life, which I explored during my Biology degree. This background has given me a solid foundation for understanding the statistics around birth and confidently pointing you towards trustworthy, evidence-based research. It's about empowering you with reliable information, so you can make informed choices.

In 2022, I completed my doula training and then furthered my skills through the Doula UK mentoring programme. I'm also a qualified KGHypnobirthing teacher, and I've had the privilege of supporting families through a variety of birth experiences, including home births, accidental free birth, hospital births, and supporting those navigating 'higher risk' labours. This has included helping people understand and determine absolute risk in situations like gestational diabetes, high BMI, and premature birth. It's been incredibly rewarding to support individuals in making confident decisions that feel right for them.

My aim is to provide nurturing, practical support, helping you feel empowered and comfortable throughout your pregnancy, birth, and beyond. I've supported many people, including those without partners or with limited support networks, and I believe everyone deserves a positive and empowering birth experience, whatever that looks like for them.

Recognising that pregnancy and the postpartum period can bring a range of emotions, not always the picture-perfect joy we often see portrayed, is incredibly important to me. My experience as a crisis counsellor with Shout has provided me with a deep understanding of mental health and wellbeing, particularly during times of significant change. I'm acutely aware that pregnancy, while often a beautiful experience, can also be challenging, and that not everyone enjoys every moment. My role is to offer a safe, non-judgmental space where you can openly express your feelings, anxieties, and concerns. I'm here to support your emotional wellbeing, helping you navigate any difficulties that may arise, and ensure you have the tools and resources you need to feel grounded and supported.

Beyond my doula work, I find joy in creating nourishing meals, drawing inspiration from traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese recipes. I believe good food is a vital part of well-being, especially during this transformative time. I also love spending time outdoors, practising yoga, and embracing the refreshing chill of cold water swimming.

I'm genuinely excited to be part of your journey and offer compassionate, grounded support. If you'd like to chat further about how I can support you, please don't hesitate to reach out.

What my previous clients said working with me

Giving birth for the first time is the most life changing event that a first time mum will go through. My advice to anyone thinking about hiring a doula is to do it - don’t think twice. Alice has a wealth of knowledge and is very understanding and non judgemental about the type of birth that you envisage, it is so obvious how passionate Alice is about birth. When I fell pregnant I did not even consider that I would give birth without pain relief. But through all of our sessions with Alice, research and practicing hypnobirthing, I decided I wanted to try experience a physiological birth (again with no pressure or judgement from alice) and I ended up being able to give birth to our baby in the bath on only gas & air. I am so grateful to Alice for the support she provided both me and my partner. During birth Alice was calm and supportive, and also acted as our advocate with the medical staff. I am now a huge advocate for talking about birth in a positive way and thankful to Alice for helping us see how beautiful birth can be, too often we only hear about the traumatic stories! We highly recommend Alice’s services. - CM

“Alice was always available and that she was there for me was the most significant thing about her support and help. It didn't matter if I had a question or if I just needed someone to vent about the poor care I received at the hospital, Alice always listened, answered my messages, and somehow knew what I needed to hear to keep me going. She helped me to down and regain my confidence every time. I could always reach her, for which I could never be grateful enough.
[Having Alice as my doula] was the best decision I could have made for myself during pregnancy. I reached out to Alice at the very beginning of my journey and always felt like her being there for me as my doula was the best thing that could have happened to me. I honestly think every pregnant woman should have a doula, their support is absolutely invaluable.” - AHF

“I debated whether to get a doula but as I was quite anxious about the prospect of a birth I thought it may be helpful and with the benefit of hindsight I’m so glad I made the decision to get a doula and that I picked Alice.
The prep sessions in the run up to the birth were really helpful. I found it really helpful to be able to talk through the different aspects and prep for birth with someone and to have someone to help navigate and digest all the information that is available.
In the end my daughter ended up arriving slightly prematurely (at 36 weeks) without Alice’s support I suspect I would have had a total panic at the prospect of an early labour but the prep sessions, including a last minute one on the day my waters broke really helped me stay calm and feel as confident as I could be in the circumstances.
Alice was also very kind, flexible and accommodating and made herself available notwithstanding the fact she wasn’t officially yet “on call.”
In terms of the labour itself there were a couple of complications which meant my “Plan A” birth plan wasn’t possible, but the fact that I had spoken to Alice about my preferences was really helpful both in terms of informing my own decision process during labour but it also allowed Alice to gently challenge and questions some of the recommendations from the doctors - as we were beginning to go down a path of fairly significant intervention (ventouse, forceps etc.).
Alice helped me have the confidence to ask for a little more time before additional medical procedures were performed and in the end I was able to give birth with fairly minimal medical intervention - I have no doubt this would not have been the result without Alice, as such I genuinely believe I had a tangibly more positive birth experience as a result of the preparation in advance and the support received on the day. A huge thank you.” - BA

“Alice was my doula for my second pregnancy, and first homebirth.
In addition to being very knowledgeable and committed to her role, she has a positive attitude. Alice stays extremely calm during birth and she has a lot of empathy.  She helped me stay confident to birth my baby with no healthcare provider present at the time of delivery. I felt very lucky to have Alice by my side during this special moment. ” - ZF
