About Me
Hi! My name is Bev and I’m a birth-oholic!
I’m guessing that the fact you’re here means you’re pregnant – congratulations!
I am a recognised Birth Doula, specialising in Hypnobirthing births.
Giving birth to my son in April 2014 made me acknowledge birth as a life changing experience. Since then I’ve built my life around caring for, encouraging and supporting women and their birth partners through their own pregnancy, birth and parenting journeys.
Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, every pregnancy and birth has a huge impact on women, their partners and their baby. It is my want for you and your partner to feel confident, calm and in control of your birth experience, so you can really enjoy the magical moment when you meet your baby for the first time.
My role of supporting mum can take many forms. I have love and respect for Hypnobirthing – not least because I used the techniques to give birth – and as such I specialise in supporting couples who have chosen to take a similar path. I have extensive experience in aiding mums through deep relaxation, breathing techniques, using affirmations (words of encouragement), physical movement and light touch massage. I can also provide knowledge of many other comfort measures that may benefit and support your birthing choices.
As a Doula, my role is to not get in the middle of your relationship with your birth partner, but to encourage them – facilitating their role – so they also enjoy the experience. I love helping couples strengthen their bond through the pregnancy and birth process because this can be incredibly beneficial as you move forward together as a family.
I have experience in home birth, birth centre and labour ward, water birth, spontaneous and induced labour, assisted and unassisted delivery, as well as other special circumstances and straight forward natural birth. My role as chair of the Maternity Voices Partnership at my local hospital also means I have considerable knowledge of hospital protocols and terminology.
Whilst – in my experience – the use of Hypnobirthing techniques can often lead to lower intervention rates and use of medical pain relief, I will always support your choices without criticism or judgement. My only wish that mum and her birth partner feel they created the best experience for them.
It is my inner birth geek that drives my love for all things birth and because of this my friends say there is nothing I won’t learn about pregnancy, birth or newborns! Below is a list of my trainings to date and I have no doubt I will add to these as I continue my personal and professional development.
