Danielle Fox

Birth Doula

Fully certified birth and postnatal doula providing at home or hospital support. My offerings also include mindful breastfeeding sessions, and antenatal birth preparation sessions. I am based in Cardiff, South Wales and welcome enquiries from all backgrounds.

What can I offer you? ..... Put simply, I will be on hand with my knowledge and experience to support you from pregnancy all the way through to birth and early motherhood.

Our bodies are incredible and birth is instinctive, but knowing you have an amazing support network around you only makes you feel stronger. After my sons very different labours and births, I knew I wanted to be there to support other women on this journey into new motherhood! I am truly passionate about supporting families through this life changing experience.

Once I knew this was the path for me, I decided on a Doula preparation course with Nurturing Birth which I completed in June 2016 and have immersed myself in all things pregnancy and birth ever since... including now being invited onto the Nurturing Birth team as Mentor Co-ordinator and Course Facilitator. As your Doula I am totally committed to YOU and preparing your birth partner to support you in the best ways possible. I want your birth experience to be the best it can be, no matter what choices you have made or are planning.

I support you throughout your labour and birth, making your birth space your "safe little bubble!" I bring great calmness, patience, positivity and a little humour to every birth I attend. My main priority is you and I will encourage, support and be there for you in any way I can! I have experience with home birth, waterbirth, consultant led care, hospital transfer, cesarean birth, IVF pregnancy, birth following trauma or postnatal depression, teen pregnancy, single parenthood, breastfeeding, expressing and bottle feeding.

I can provide you with emotional, physical and practical support, as well as enhancing your families role in caring for you during labour and beyond. During our antenatal sessions we will cover birth physiology, breathing techniques, birth positions, birth plans and what to expect in the first few weeks of new parenthood.  During labour I will constantly be there by your side to encourage you, wipe your hair from your face, keep you cool and offer counter pressure or massage.

I do not make decisions for you but will provide you with information so you can make an informed choice of what YOU would like! I have a caring, patient nature and work intuitively with every client. Some prefer me to stay in the background and quietly observe, others want hands on support....either is fine with me! I really love getting to know the families that I work with on a deeper level, we build up a trust that grows with every meeting. It is such an honour and privilege to be invited into their birth spaces!

If you would like to book me for postnatal care only, I can support your personal feeding choice, help with baby/ older siblings or just be there as a listening ear. New motherhood can be very overwhelming whether you have one child or four! You can book me to come to your home as a constant emotional support, tidy around the home, make you light lunches, or after a few weeks I can even attend baby groups with you while you build up confidence to get out and about. I will fully support you at home until you're feeling happy and confident on this new life journey!

Please contact me via email or telephone if you would like a brief chat about the support I can provide. We can then arrange to meet in person for a coffee and see if our personalities fit.

My prices can be found on my website, and packages can be broken into three monthly payments if a lump sum is the only thing holding you back from getting the doula support you need. Arrangements can sometimes be made between us when it comes to personal circumstances, so please still enquire! I am happy to drive up to one hour away from my home in Rhoose for a birth. I also volunteer by running a monthly birth group (Mamas & Bumps Social) in the Vale of Glamorgan for expectant and new mums to socialise, discuss birth topics and offer eachother support. We meet in a beautiful studio in St Nicholas. I have my own book lending library and can put you in touch with the right people for almost anything when it comes to birth.

REVIEWS:

“I had Danielle visit me at a time when I was starting to feel a little anxious and overwhelmed by the thought of labour and life thereafter, and to say Danielle put my mind at rest is an understatement. Her bubbly personality made me feel at ease talking about labour with her and made me feel a lot more prepared for what was to come. I honestly think I wouldn’t have been able to have had the good experience of labour without the help of Danielle and for anyone out there wondering if they should have a doula or not I’d definitely say go for it…you won’t regret it.”

"Danielle supported the birth of my second child in August 2019. After considering my options and discussing them with Danielle, I was hoping to have as least intervention as possible and had planned to go to a midwife led unit. Due to high blood pressure at the early stage of labour I was admitted to hospital and my plan to try for a water birth went out of the window! Although another hospital birth had not been my plan, with Danielle's support I was able to achieve the straightforward active birth I had wanted. Danielle was amazing, she physically helped me through every contraction, she motivated me throughout and especially at the transition stage when I thought it was never going to happen! Just knowing that I had an advocate there gave me the strength to speak up about my preferences and ask for a second opinion when required. She was a great support for my partner too, it took a lot of pressure off him and he found the whole experience much better. Danielle is a great birth educator and advocate, absolutely non-judgemental, and overall a really lovely person and I would recommend her support wholeheartedly for whatever type of birth you are planning"

“Danielle is a vibrant and easy person to be around, she made the whole experience fun and took the fear out of the impending birth of our first child. Danielle has given my husband and myself the confidence to make informed decisions about the type of birth we want and that we are doing the best for us and our baby. We can’t recommend Danielle enough to any expectant parents who feel slightly overwhelmed by pregnancy and birth. She really has been invaluable to us. Thank you Dan!!”

“Danielle came to my home to support me when my partner went back to work. My daughter was only 2 weeks old and quite unsettled, but the help and support Danielle gave me was invaluable! She is patient, kind and very easy to talk to. On top of that she made me laugh and gave me the confidence to believe in myself as a new mum….for that I will always be grateful".

"We first contacted Danielle in the hope of her being our Doula when I was 6 weeks pregnant, she supported us from day one and it still supporting us with our baby. She is friendly, caring and professional. She enabled us to make informed decisions about pregnancy and the type of birth we wanted without pushing her own views onto us. She attended antenatal appointments with me when my husband was working and was always on the end of the phone for advice and still is. Her one to one antenatal classes were fantastic and tailored to us. I also attended her aquanatal yoga which was so much fun and gave me great tools for labour.  Danielle gave myself and my husband the confidence in birthing and being new parents. She enabled us to have a wonderful home birth and an incredibly positive birth experience, something I never thought possible beforehand. I’d highly recommend Danielle and if we are blessed with another baby in the future we won’t hesitate to book her as our Doula again!"
