Dawn Powell

Birth Doula & Postnatal Doula

My name is Dawn and I live in Aston Abbotts, Buckinghamshire. I am married and we have three children. I really love being a doula and supporting families through this very special time. When not doula-ing I enjoy spending time outdoors, particularly walking our two dogs Bramble and Hector, going on camping trips, reading and baking. My Services: I am a trained and experienced birth partner, offering physical, emotional and informational support to women/couples who are having a baby. I offer both Birth and Postnatal Doula Services. Birth Doula I have experience in supporting couples through all types of birth; at home, birth centres and in hospital. As your Birth Doula I am 'on call' 24/7 for your labour from 38 weeks of pregnancy and will stay with you throughout labour, tending to your emotional and physical needs to help make the birth a positive and rewarding experience. I will meet with you twice in your pregnancy, in the comfort of your home and help you plan and prepare for the birth and address any anxieties or questions you may have. I will support these choices in labour and be your advocate. I can assist you with comfort measures, breathing and relaxation techniques, movement and positioning during the labour and birth. I work alongside the midwife and your birth partner as part of a team, enhancing and complementing the care. I understand that there can be great expectations and pressure placed on birth partners and will support and encourage them to participate at whatever level they are comfortable with. My aim as a doula is to help you approach labour with confidence and strength. You will have my unconditional support, so that you feel secure and nurtured during the birth of your baby. Postnatal Doula As your postnatal doula, I'm there for you in the first weeks after the birth to ease the transition with your new baby. I can give information and support on feeding and caring for your baby. I offer help with household tasks; such as laundry, cleaning, shopping and preparing meals, giving you time to recuperate and bond with your baby. I'm also happy to help you get some rest, by looking after baby while you catch up on sleep or take a bath. Emotional support is equally important in those early weeks and sometimes it's good to be able to talk things through over a cup of tea. Support is tailored to the individual needs of each family, with the aim of creating a nurturing and restful atmosphere for you at this special time. Qualifications and Experience I have had three children myself, two were born in hospital and one at home. I have also had the honour of being at the births of my two grandchildren and attending many births whilst training and working as a midwife. In the past, I have also worked as a volunteer for Homestart (a charity supporting families in need). I believe in lifelong learning and am constantly updating my knowledge by reading and keeping up-to date with the latest research, as well as through my own experiences as a doula. I have CRB clearance and am fully insured. Trained as a Doula with Nurturing Birth Enhanced Diploma in Midwifery
