About Me
Hello my name is Emma.
Thank you for your interest in my services.
I believe you should feel safe, respected and in control during pregnancy, birth and as a new parent, whatever your circumstances. You are the centre of everything, I will reassure and remind you to trust your own instincts, as you decide your preferences for your pregnancy, birth or as a new parent. I offer unbiased, evidence based information, and practical and emotional support, so that you will continue to develop your own knowledge, insights and confidence. You will empower yourself.
I am a Birth and Postnatal Doula, former NHS Midwife, a Nursery Nurse and Hypnobirthing teacher. I am comfortable and experienced at attending births at home, hospital, birth centres and in theatre, and I have many years (over 30 years!!!) of experience in supporting families during pregnancy, and in the early weeks and months with their new baby (or babies).
I understand that you will need to feel comfortable and relaxed with the Doula you choose to share this incredibly special time with. We can have an informal talk on the ‘phone, then if you (and any birth partner) would like to meet for a cuppa, I offer a free 45 minute meeting to see how I may best support you, and to see if we feel a positive connection with each other. Then, if I am invited to be your Doula, we can work out a personalised package to suit you.
My services are flexible and can be individualised to suit personal circumstances and preferences. There are options for Antenatal support for both Midwife lead and obstetric lead pregnancies, Hypnobirthing courses and Birth Preparation Courses, Birth Doula services, Postnatal Doula Services, support with feeding and new born care, Maternity Nursing (days/nights), and Mother/parent Blessings. I also offer information about Rebozo, waterbirth, active birthing positions, massage and breathing techniques.
Please visit my website (link above) ‘GOODBIRTH with Emma Goodburn’ for more detailed information, and my social media pages. Thank you. I would be delighted to talk to you, it is always a privilege to share this unique time with parents.
SERVICES AVAILABLE IN HOME/AT MY OFFFICE ‘THE SNUG’ IN TORBAY/VIA LIVE VIRTUAL SESSIONS
A little introduction. I have been doing this work, in different roles, as long as I can remember. I have developed my practice to a deeper level since leaving my NHS Midwifery post and changing my path to be a Doula. I am an independent non clinical birth keeper, free from protocol and rules. I am free to support you, with continuity, which unfortunately the NHS system can not always provide. I work comfortably along side Midwives, other birth and healthcare professionals, and can offer an insight in to how to navigate the Maternity system, so that you are making truly informed choices for yourself.
I am a mother of three grown up daughters. My birth experiences were powerful and positive and I believe this is what all women and birth parents should feel, regardless of HOW they birth.
I was thrilled to be birth partner for my eldest daughter, at the beautiful home births of my granddaughter, then my grandson. This has influenced my practice further, with a new wisdom.
I was incredibly inspired when I took a course on ‘The Farm’ in Tennessee, USA with Ina May Gaskin (author of ‘Guide to Childbirth’ and ‘Spiritual Midwifery’) and The Farm midwives several years ago. Their parent centred approach is also my focus. I will not tell you what to do, but will respect your choices and share evidenced based information with you to support you to achieve what you want, for birth and as a new parent.
