I'm Emma, a postnatal doula living in Mid Sussex with my husband, son and daughter.
My passion for postnatal began after the birth of my son in January 2020 when I quickly realised how little support there was for new parents. Throw COVID into the midst and I found myself suffering from postpartum anxiety, rage and depression. We are not designed to parent alone and with all the love and support my husband could give, it was not enough. We need a 'village' as they say.
Becoming a parent/mother is a life changing experience and one that needs support. In addition to nurturing a baby, you, yourself needs nurturing through this transition. This period of your life needs recognition, empathy, compassion and attention and this is why I trained as a postnatal doula with Younique Postnatal in September 2022. Postnatal support isn't a luxury, its essential in ensuring all your needs are meet: nourishment, recovery, restoration, priority and being heard.
You need looking after during this period in order for you to support the growth and development of your baby. I can help you. Parenthood can bring up all types of questions and emotions. It is the most wonderful experience but a journey and one in which I believe I can help you to cherish wholeheartedly.
A few ways I can support you:
- Provide a safe space for you to debrief your birth, should you wish.
- Basic breastfeeding support and help to troubleshoot or signpost.
- Prepare meals and snacks to nourish you and the whole family.
- Help with the transition from 1 + child/ren and support with older siblings.
- Light housework.
- Cuddle or wear you baby in a sling whilst you shower, sleep, for for a walk etc...
- Be a supportive and listening ear for partners.
- Listen to any worries and concerns.
- Share my directory of professionals.
