About Me
I am a mother of five children and have personally experienced home and hospital births while birthing my own children.
I believe that my role as a Doula is to support a woman to have the best birth experience for the benefit of herself, her baby, partner and whole family.
Birth should be a positive, transitional experience and by preparing well, and having good support this can help increase the chances of achieving a positive birth experience.
My philosophy of birthing and the transition to motherhood is that it should, above all, be honoured as a sacred rite of passage. If it is the Mothers wish I can guide a Blessingway ceremony for her to mark this important time in her life. After the birth I am experienced in supporting mothers who choose Lotus births or Sacred Severance rituals, please do ask if you would like more information on these..
I help prepare expectant mums, Partners and families by giving full information on their birth choices and how to plan for them. we explore options and different scenarios very much on a 1-1 basis and help tailor techniques and tools to manage labour. I offer full support with as many visits as needed to prepare you physically, mentally and emotionally for the birth.
I provide a postnatal doula service to women I have birth doula’d for and as an ad hoc service to local women to get them through a difficult time, my main focus at all times is to support you to become confident mothers and carers of your own babies.
I trained in 2008 as a birth and postnatal doula, and have undergone a process of ‘recognition’ with both Nurturing Birth and Doula UK. Since 2011 I am also a Doula UK Mentor; supporting others new to their Doula journey.
I am a qualified massage therapist (ITEC 1993) and can offer pregnancy and postnatal massage, this training has given me the skills to be able to offer physical support during labour, as I am aware of how to use touch as an effective way to sooth and calm. I also have experience of shiatzu massage techniques, Spinning Babies, and Rebozo techniques which I can teach partner to apply.
I offer basic aromatherapy and homeopathy should this appeal.
I have undertaken hypnobirthing training in 2020 and am able to offer full hypnobirthing preparation classes as well as offer support to women choosing to use this method during labour.
I am a qualified pregnancy and postnatal yoga teacher (2010) , Lamaze childbirth educator (2011) and NCT antenatal teacher (2012) and teach NCT signature classes in Rugby.
Postnatally I can offer:
Sacred bathing for the new mother, massage and abdominal binding using traditional ‘Manta’ techniques. I can also provide a ‘closing the bones’ Rebozo ritual to assist in the new mothers physical and emotional transition to motherhood.
I fully support planned caesarian births, hospital birth, homebirth and waterbirth and have a great deal of experience in preparing couples to achieve a natural birth, either in home, hospital, and/or water.
I have experience of supporting families having twins, planned vaginal breech birth, VBAC, HWBAC, first time mums and mums preparing to welcome a new baby into a home of lots of siblings.. Every family is unique and special, and I have loved working with every one, and hope I have many years to come of supporting many more amazing families!
