The early weeks with your newborn are a very special time but also quite challenging. I can’t be the only mum who got home with her first baby and had no idea what to do next! I had great support from my partner but there were still lots of nights frantically scouring books and the internet for what to do next. Having someone experienced and calm to listen while I worked through my feelings and recovered from the birth would have been invaluable. A friendly helper while I worked out how to feed and look after my baby would have been great too! I decided to train as a post natal doula so I can be that person – supporting you in the early days and weeks while you and your baby get to know each other and prepare to enter the world.
Every mum, baby and family are different. As your doula I can offer individual, gentle support in the early days with your baby. Help you find time and a calm space to rest, start recovering from the birth and get to know your little one. I can help with baby care skills or light housework, prepare nourishing meals and help entertain older children. I can just hold your baby while you sleep, shower or have a bit of time to yourself. I am a good listener so you can tell me anything and everything and I come prepared with lots of information about sources of help, classes and activities for you and your baby if you want or need them.
I am just beginning my journey as a Post Natal Doula. I completed my training course this year and am now mentored so I can benefit from the knowledge of an experienced doula while I continue to learn. As my client, you will benefit from the knowledge of my mentor behind the scenes as well as my hands on support.
I am a friendly mum of two and I have spent the last 17 years working with young children and their families as an Ofsted registered childminder. This was a wonderful way to stay at home with my own kids while they were little. I have loved seeing the children in my care grow from babies to confident school children, finding their feet and their own voices and learning so much along the way. As a post natal doula I want to help you feel confident and nurtured so you can enjoy the journey through your early days.
