Georgie Ruthven

Birth Doula

Birth and parenthood is a team effort. Understand how to prepare for them both, staying one step ahead. It takes a village... Let's create yours.

My interest in childbirth began with the pregnancies of our two children in 1997 & 1999.

Thanks to attending yoga classes with Kaye Mellor in Oxford, my expectations around labour & birth became very positive.  Kaye's inspiring approach meant actually looking forward to them.

Our daughter arrived without intervention at Chipping Norton Cottage Hospital and our son, on the front seat of the car, ten minutes before arriving !  I really believe it wasn't just luck.

From then on, I've wanted to share all the tips I believe helped, and went to train with Maggie Howell, teaching Natal Hypnotherapy birth preparation.

My goal is supporting parents to have the best births possible, for them

I'm certain the process of a well managed pregnancy and labour, enhances a woman's self belief and confidence, increasing her chances of a positive experience; creating far-reaching benefits for her and her family.

I teach two workshops: Natural Pain Relief and Practical Birth Preparation; either at your home, or mine or over zoom.

We can chat throughout your pregnancy, as much or little as you need, helping you feel supported and prepared.

I'm available to attend labour, alongside your other birth partner, sharing the role as much or as little as you both would like and offering moral and practical support afterwards.

I attended birth doula training with Dr Michel Odent and Liliana Lamers in 2008.

When you feel confident and informed it helps reduce fears you may have, making an enormous difference in the labour room.  Preparation with hypnosis also helps lay the groundwork.

I have experience using Bach Flower Essences, Essential Oils and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique or Tapping), all of which can play a part in supporting labour, but also in the long term, helping maintain balance within the family.

I've supported hospital births; natural and with intervention, VBAC's, water births and home births, and am well placed to attend both Gloucester and Swindon hospitals.

In addition to this, my growing passion is supporting you using Closing The Bones, (please see my website) after your baby's births; an ancient rite enjoyed by everyone, all cultures & continents, once upon a time.

Above all, my focus for 2025 is preparing you and your families for arriving home with your new baby, your sacred Post Partum time, or Fourth Trimester.

It is key to ensuring the best start to parenthood and laying the foundations for a happy home.

Please call if you'd like to discuss anything further.
