About Me

I became a mentored birth doula in March 2020 but had to put my plans on hold to care for our children during lockdown. Now however, I feel that balance has returned and I am able to begin the next step in my doula journey. Originally from Norfolk, I now live in a small village between Peterborough and Spalding with my husband and our two children.

It was during the homebirth of our second child that I truly understood what it was to feel empowered and safe during birth. The homebirth team had provided an excellent continuity of care throughout my pregnancy and I was fortunate to have all of my wishes respected throughout my birth experience.

I recognise that this continuity and security is not a guarantee for many parents and my wish is to be able to support, nurture and protect the birthing woman and her family. I wish for her to know that her plans and decisions are heard and that they are respected by all members of her birth team. I also wish for the birthing mother to feel empowered, both during and after her birth. I work with families to prepare for their new arrival and to help them to build their plan, considering all available options and enabling them to make their choices, based on sound research and consideration. My role with a family will vary, depending on their needs. I may be holding the hand of a mother, reminding her that she has the strength within her, or I may be there to offer a familiar face to support siblings during a homebirth.

Although my career has varied from veterinary nursing, to lecturing in animal and equine care, to teaching British Sign Language to babies and toddlers, I have always been in an honoured position to care for and nurture others. This has continued into my current role as an NCT breastfeeding peer supporter and member of the Peterborough Homebirth Support Group.

My fees are currently at a reduced rate whilst I complete my mentored role, so please feel free to contact me to discuss your requirements.
