I grew up just outside of Birmingham and took the bold step of moving to London at the age of 18 to study Fashion Design and Marketing at London College of Fashion. As it turns, out I was there at the right place and time because I met my American husband to be at 19. We moved back to the US together after getting married in our early 20s.
My love for design and drawing turned into painting people’s faces. I worked as a bridal makeup artist in New York and had the pleasure of meeting many different women all with their own life stories.
I yearned to grow a family and felt the US and the American healthcare system wasn’t for me. I relocated back home and had my first baby Isaac in 2019.
Knowing nothing about birth other than what I’d seen in films and mainstream media, I had no idea what to expect or what was on offer. I remember seeing a poster in at a midwife appointment of postpartum women gathering with a cup of tea together on a sofa and immediately asked, where is this magical place?! Turns out it was a standalone birth centre…
After experiencing the transformative magic that is childbirth I was immediately drawn to childbirth and all that surrounds it. My first son was born at a midwifery led birth centre. After experiencing traumatic postpartum transfer and stay in a labour ward, I became determined to learn more about childbirth and how women can help each other navigate it.
I believe every woman deserves to be heard, seen and her choices respected. I believe that having another woman at your birth that knows your wishes, trusts in you and the process, and keeps a tranquil, safe space is fundamental to a positive birth experience.
I feel incredibly lucky to work with women on two of their most sacred paths through life; marriage and birth.
