Hello. I am Helen Claire Discombe, a Recognised Doula UK Doula and experienced practitioner dedicated to supporting families across the Thames Valley region, including Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire.

My support is deeply rooted in the belief that birth is a sacred rite of passage, with pregnancy being a time of preparation, and the postnatal period a time of deep integration. I work as your guide, supporting you as you connect with your inner strength and enabling you to claim a confident, positive, and empowering experience.

Having been supporting families since 2014 (initially as a HypnoBirthing Practitioner) and training as a doula with BirthBliss Academy in 2018, I bring profound experience and wisdom to your side. My philosophical approach is deeply informed by cyclical wisdom and the teachings I have received from inspirational wise women such as Jane Hardwicke Collings and Uma Dinsmore Tuli.

As the founder of The Untamed Woman Sisterhood, a community focused on cyclical living and radical self-care, my work consistently honours the feminine essence.

Specialist Guidance & Trusted Connection

While I typically begin working with women around 20 weeks into their pregnancy, it's never too late to enquire (I do get booked up!) and it's never too late to check for last-minute availability.

I bring a depth of wisdom and connection to my work that comes from being highly involved in the birth community. As a Recognised Doula UK Doula, a Doula Coach with BirthBliss Academy, and the local Doula UK Area Rep for Buckinghamshire, I am consistently learning and sharing insight with other doulas. This means you have a guide who is both deeply connected to best practice and well-resourced, giving you peace of mind throughout your journey.

Holding Space for Your Unique Journey

I provide a sacred container for your transition, offering emotional, physical, and spiritual preparation. I am proud to specialise in holding space for those navigating complex paths:

  • Neurodivergence: I have significant experience and passion for supporting neurodivergent families through the emotional and logistical changes of the childbearing year.
  • Trauma & Loss: I offer compassionate support for families navigating previous birth trauma, fertility challenges, and pregnancy loss.

Preparation, Passage, and Integration

  • Antenatal (Preparation): Our work together involves profound preparation, moving beyond the physical into the spiritual and emotional. We explore your past experiences and any fears you may be carrying, so you arrive at the birth altar feeling ready. I utilise empowering tools such as Hypnobirthing and Biomechanics for Birth, and can integrate Shamanic Practices into our work, should you wish.
  • Birth: During your labour and birth, I am your continuous, calm guide and space holder, offering support through massage, aromatherapy, Reiki, and positioning comfort measures as you transcend the birth portal.
  • Postnatal (Integration): The 40-day postnatal period is the crucial window for deep integration and healing. My role is to nurture you as you grow into the fullness of motherhood. I provide nourishing emotional support and healing, including restorative holistic practices and the powerful ritual of a Closing Ceremony at the end of our work together.

Helen was my doula throughout my pregnancy and the birth of my baby. She shared lots of useful knowledge, resources and advice to help me make informed decisions. She was there to answer all my questions, relieve anxieties and talk through any issues I had during my pregnancy and the birth.

When my pregnancy continued past my 'due date', Helen was my main support system, checking in frequently and helping me navigate my way through those final weeks. I always felt reassured in my choices and intuition to have the most natural pregnancy and birth possible.

She supported me fully through a long labour and with her tools and guidance we managed to have a natural birth despite things not running totally smoothly. I am so grateful for all her help and wisdom and glad we chose her as our doula for such a significant chapter of our lives. Thank you Helen! - Becca, Didcot

There are simply no words to describe how incredibly grateful I am that Helen came into our lives. I could not imagine my birth story without her present. She really was a huge part of our journey Leading up to my son's birth, during labour and postnatally. Hiring her was honestly the best decision myself and my partner made. She was there through all the incredible highs and momentary lows offering incredible advice and just generally being the best human. I can honestly say she shaped our story into its beautiful being which could have been very different due to issues spotted late in my pregnancy. She very much stopped it being a very traumatic event for us all. She was there when no one was listening to us with a wealth of knowledge, the best shoulder to cry on she enabled us to move forward and I can honestly say my labour and birth experience was the best moment of my life. I get teary just thinking about our time together, she is a true friend that I will never forget. I can say with certainty her purpose in life is to help birthing people feel safe and loved and you will not regret your decision in opening your door and heart and letting her in. - Cagney, Langley

I brought on Helen as my doula for the birth of my second daughter. I really couldn't reccomend her more, she brought with her such a wealth of wisdom and experience. Her knowledge of all things birth is expansive and she gave me very valuable guidance on how to navigate dealing with the NHS when I was running well past my due date and was very keen to avoid induction and have an intervention free birth at home. My birth experience was really amazing, I honestly don't think it could have been more positive, and I know this was largely due to Helen's consistent support, encouragement, sage advice and all round wonderful service as doula for the birth of my baby. Thank you so much Helen! - Jess, Henley

Having Helen as my doula during and after pregnancy was the best decision I ever made. Helen made me feel so supported through the whole experience.
She was always there to answer any questions I had and provided unbiased information when I needed advise.
Due to her continued support I was able to decide how I wanted my birth plan to be and went on to have a lovely birth experience.
I highly recommend Helen to anyone who is pregnant. She is a genuinely lovely person to have hold space for you :) - Cheryl, High Wycombe

Having a doula was important to me due to some negative experiences in hospital in the past. Immediately I felt a connection with Helen and from the very start her knowledge and warm manner gave me confidence. It was also very important to me that my husbands role wasn't undermined in any way and Helen was just as much a support for him as she was for me. She played such an important part in both of our experiences during the birth of our daughter. The birth of my daughter had its challenges, but I felt so supported by my birth team that I am able to look back positively. I would highly recommend Helen as a Doula, she helped me achieve a positive experience in less than ideal circumstances and I am so grateful for this. - Holli, Chalfonts

Helen was everything we needed her to be. Positive and reassuring, while also being practical by providing massage, and keeping me warm in the birth pool using a towel. Helen was such a dependable, kind and reassuring presence throughout the whole birth and supported me in having the homebirth I wanted, with minimal medical interference. Helen has an excellent way of being positive and uplifting, while making you feel heard and empathising completely, offering practical solutions and ideas. We both found Helen to be very trustworthy and easy to talk to. - Elen, Wallingford

When I was in labour Helen answered the phone straight away and came to us as soon as we asked her to. She stayed with us for 24 hours in total! Helen set-up a cozy environment in the hospital and was encouraging and patient throughout. Following the birth, Helen was in touch almost every day to check in and offer advice. Helen is amazing. She listens and gives appropriate advice without judging. Easily available and happy to help, even when she wasn't call. - Marie, Thame

I found the tools I learnt with Helen to be priceless and still find myself using the breathing techniques during stressful situations in my everyday life. Helen also showed my husband to be fully involved in each step of the process, rather than standing in a corner of a room quietly panicking, he was there by my side, really involved because knew exactly what my body was doing and why, he also understood his role and was confident in the process. - Saira, High Wycombe
