Hello, I'm Helen Claire Discombe, a Recognised Doula UK Doula based in Stokenchurch, South Buckinghamshire, supporting families across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and surrounding areas

Birth is one of life's greatest rites of passage. However a baby comes into the world, birth has the potential to shape us long after the day it happens. It isn't simply about becoming a mother or parent; it's about the profound transformation of the woman or person giving birth.

That understanding sits at the heart of everything I do.

My role is never to tell you what to do or to lead your birth. Instead, I walk alongside you, helping you feel heard, informed and deeply supported as you navigate one of life's most significant transitions. I believe every birthing woman and person deserves the space to make decisions with confidence, trust their own instincts and feel respected in every interaction they have.

When we feel safe with the people around us, we can surrender to the physiology of birth, remain connected to ourselves and move through the experience in a way that feels right for us. Creating those conditions—for you, your birth partner and your birth team—is at the heart of my work.

Whilst I primarily support families who are planning to welcome their babies at home, I also know that birth doesn't always unfold as we imagine. Whether birth happens at home or in hospital, or your plans change unexpectedly along the way, my role remains the same: to walk alongside you, honour your choices, and help you feel informed, supported and connected to yourself throughout your journey.

I first trained as a HypnoBirthing Practitioner in 2014 before qualifying as a BirthBliss Academy Doula in 2018. Since then, my work has continued to evolve as I've supported families through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. Alongside birth work, I also work as a Women's Health Doula, supporting women through other significant transitions including fertility, perimenopause and other women's health issues.

Every family's story is unique, and I have experience supporting families through a wide range of circumstances, including:

• Planning a home birth, including families whose plans later change
• Vaginal Birth After Caesarean (VBAC)
• Physiological breech birth
• Families navigating changes in birth plans, including to planned caesarean birth
• Pregnancy and birth after previous birth trauma
• Pregnancy after loss
• Neurodivergent parents and families
• Parents experiencing anxiety, depression and other mental health challenges
• Disabled parents
• LGBTQIA+ families
• Survivors of abuse and sexual trauma
• Families wishing to incorporate cultural, religious or spiritual traditions into their birth

As the parent of an AuDHD teenager, and having recognised my own AuDHD through that journey, I also understand how important it is to receive support that honours who you are as an individual. Every family arrives with different experiences, different hopes and different needs, and I believe the care they receive should reflect that.

I'm a Recognised Doula UK Doula and Women's Health Doula with over 10 years of experience in birth work. Alongside supporting families, I work as a BirthBliss Coach and a Doula UK Mentor, supporting the development of newly qualified doulas. I'm also proud to serve as the Doula UK Area Representative for Buckinghamshire, keeping me closely connected to both the local doula community and the wider birth world. My passion for birth and women's health means I'm continually learning, deepening my understanding and growing in experience, enabling me to bring both knowledge and wisdom to every family I have the privilege of supporting.

My hope is that every family I support leaves their birth feeling heard, respected and able to look back knowing they made the choices that were right for them. Birth may not always unfold as we expect, but with the right support around you, it can still be an experience that strengthens your trust in yourself and marks the beginning of parenthood with confidence rather than fear.

If my approach resonates with you, I'd love to hear your story. You can find out more about my work on my website, and if you feel we're the right fit, get in touch to arrange a conversation.
