Dear expectant parents!
I am Jagna, originally from Northern Germany, but have called North London home for over 10 years. I love being in nature, playing the cello in a local care home, and spending time with my loved ones.
To me being a doula means to be fully present with someone. This is something that I deeply enjoy. Somehow life has thrown me opportunities to practice it, too. I realised that I wanted to use that skill to support families during pregnancy and birth after accompanying a close friend into hospital when she was rather unwell during her pregnancy. Afterwards, I knew that me being there had made a huge difference to her.
My doula philosophy
I believe that if a mother feels in control, safe, and trusted in her intuition it leads to a better birth experience and outcome. I view it as my role to help create an environment where these things can flourish and are protected.
I see a mother’s intuition as a fundamentally important guide during pregnancy and birth. In our antenatal sessions I help you build trust in you, your body and your baby. During birth I will listen to you, amplify and advocate for what you need, and make sure your decisions are respected.
My role is also to support you, no matter what your birth journey looks like, to make informed decisions that you will look back on with peace. I will never advise but am a resource to draw on for evidence-based information. I know with a myriad of decisions to be made during pregnancy it is easy to get overwhelmed as a new parent. I will walk with you and create a safe and supportive space to explore the options together and come to a place of feeling in control and feeling prepared.
Whatever decisions you come to I will champion, advocate for, and protect.
My birth package includes:
2-3 antenatal sessions
On call support from 38 weeks until your baby is born
Birth support
A postnatal visit
Unlimited support over phone, text, and email
I am also happy to provide post-natal support. This might include feeding support, looking after your baby while you have a nap, giving you space to explore how you feel about your birth experience, help around the house, walking the dog, or spending time with an older sibling.
Supporting expat and German parents
An expat of 10 years I understand that being away from one’s family support network can be tough at times. There are no doubt few times where that is more true than during the pregnancy and birth of your child. I am passionate about making sure that expat parents feel supported and safe during their experience navigating the UK maternity services.
When supporting expat parents my aim is to be a dependable presence – like your family would be back home –, help you understand and access the right services for your situation, and share the emotional journey of this incredible time with you.
For German parents I offer support in German and hope to bring with my presence the comfort of a feeling of home.
I also have a keen interest in supporting refugee mothers. I have done extensive training in this area and work in a trauma-informed way.
Choosing a doula
Choosing someone to be alongside you during pregnancy and birth is a deeply personal decision. You might want to speak with several people to see who you feel most at ease with. If you would like to have a free inital chat to explore what working together might look and feel like I look forward to hearing from you over email.
Please note: I am a mentored doula gaining experience. I have an experienced and lovely mentor - Maddie McMahon - to draw on and support me to give you high-quality support.
Testimonials
“My antenatal sessions with Jagna were such a positive experience. Her gentle and reassuring presence made me feel truly supported. I’d been feeling nervous about birth, but she helped me replace my worries with confidence and calm. She encouraged me to ask as many questions as I needed and helped me find an internal strength I didn't know I had. By the end, I felt prepared and at peace with the birthing process.” November 2025
