Mentored Birth Doula & Mentored Postnatal Doula

Calm, compassionate support through pregnancy, birth and early parenthood.

Hi I'm jess! Hello and welcome to my page..

What am I about?

I’m a relaxed, calm and easy-going person who loves to laugh and find the lighter side of life. I love meeting people, building relationships and creating a space where friends and clients alike can feel comfortable being completely themselves. My ethos is that life is too short for pretence. I believe in being able to show up as your true self, without feeling you need to be anything other than what feels right for you. Through the nature of my work and my own experiences in life, I have consciously learnt not to judge another person’s choices or decisions. We all come from unique stories, experiences and circumstances that shape who we are and what we need. This is the undercurrent of the support I offer. I love the diversity of people and the way we can enrich our lives through each other’s perspectives. I’m able to hold space for this without judgement and help you navigate your own path, whatever your circumstances and however you need your support to look. I also feel passionately about empowering partners. I want them to feel informed, confident and genuinely involved, with the tools to support you when I’m not there, as well as receiving support themselves when they need it. Ultimately, I’m here to walk alongside you, listen without judgement and support your way of doing things.

My Family

I live in Exeter, in a 400-year-old thatched cottage surrounded by beautiful land, with my yoga studio here at home. There is something about living here that feels very connected to how I see my work. I often feel less like an owner and more like a guardian or caretaker of a small part of the earth that has been entrusted to me. I think this feeling of caring for and holding something precious naturally finds its way into how I support others too. I live here with my husband and our four beautiful children. Each of their births was unique, and my own experiences have shaped so much of how I understand birth and motherhood. After my first birth left me feeling unheard, lost and isolated, I decided to explore a different kind of support for my following births. I was amazed by how much difference what seemed like such subtle support could make — particularly in how safe I felt during birth, and afterwards, as I navigated the emotions of a new baby alongside an already growing family. Those experiences have stayed with me. They taught me that sometimes it is the quiet presence of another person, simply being there, listening and helping you feel held, that can make all the difference.

My Background

I was born in North Devon and grew up in an educated, alternative family where I was encouraged to think for myself and see the world from different perspectives. My dad was very much a pillar of society — and if he were still here, he would definitely want me to mention that he was the first Green Mayor in the country! ;) Although I’ve never really been able to stomach the division that can come with politics, so I tend to keep well away from it. My mum, on the other hand, taught me what unconditional love truly felt like, and I’m forever grateful for that. My connection to caring for others began long before any professional training. At just 13, I started babysitting for friends and family and particularly loved helping mums with their babies, as well as all the little things that needed doing around the home. Even then, I felt there was something really important about being there for a mother in those early days. The sense of purpose I felt stayed with me and, looking back, it feels like the beginning of something that has always made sense to me. Over the years, my work has taken me through many different forms of movement and bodywork. I spent years teaching dance in schools and gyms before training as a personal trainer, yoga teacher and massage therapist. These experiences have given me a strong understanding of the body, movement and biomechanics, which I now bring into my work around pregnancy and birth. I believe gentle movement, positioning, touch and bodywork can create space, ease tension and support comfort during labour. But I also have a deep respect for the fact that every body, every birth and every person is different. There is no single way birth should look. For me, this is why listening is so important. I want to help you understand your options, find clarity and make informed choices that are personal to you, rather than trying to fit you into someone else's idea of how birth should be. I also have a passion for writing and have written and published a children's book. I love gifting a copy to the older children of my clients, because I think they deserve to feel included and important too as their family grows.

I would love to be a part of your journey and I am happy to have an initial call or meet up to have a chat. You are always in the driving seat and its important you feel comfortable with me and take your time to choose the right Doula for you.

I offer in person and remote prenatal, birth and postpartum doula support. I also offer pregnancy and post natal massage, pregnancy yoga, and birth re-imprinting which supports and helps heal traumatic birth experiences at any point in pregnancy birth or post birth

I feel incredibly passionate about the roles I offer to others and although these roles make up the jobs I do, for me, everything I do is more than a job. It’s meaningful work that I’m deeply honoured and privileged to be a part of.

"I don't have many words to describe how impactful Jessica's presence has been in this pregnancy, and how valuable her knowledge and support has been" AD, South Devon

"Jess is an amazing practitioner who I cannot recommend more highly. I was having a high risk pregnancy which was extremely stressful and Jess helped me no end to stay calm and prepared for what was to come with my birth of triplets. You will be in the safest of hands with Jess by your side". CE, North Devon

I have lots of other google reviews, for you to read and see what my clients think of my support.
