About Me
Hi, I’m Jo and I live in Astwood Bank, Worcestershire (near the Warwickshire border) with my husband, two daughters aged 7 & 5, and a weird fluffy cat called Howard.
I’ve always wanted to help people and after studying nutrition at university and working in that field for a while, I had a change of direction and started working for a foster care agency, finding placements for young people looking for foster homes. For several years after that I was a support worker for children with physical and learning disabilities.
After having my own children, I became interested in all things pregnancy, childbirth and parenting related! I found out about doulas a long time after I’d had both of my children unfortunately, but I thought I would have really benefited from having one, and was really drawn to becoming a doula as a profession – what an amazing thing to support a woman on her journey into motherhood! With my own children I had two very different experiences in relation to how I was treated during labour and in recovery, and so I know how important it is to be supported and listened to at this time. This is what I want for all the women that I work with – to be listened to, supported in whatever decisions they make and empowered to have the easiest transition into motherhood (whether it’s the for the first or fifth time!) as possible.
Outside of work I love yoga, cooking & baking (and most importantly eating!), getting out in the countryside and lazy Sundays that involve films, a good book and a glass of prosecco!
Here’s a few testimonials:
“Jo was my doula for the birth of my son in November. She was an absolutely fantastic support, not only for me antenatally and during labour, but also for my husband – helping share the load so he could rest when needed.
We had a home water birth, following hypnobirthing principles. Jo was very supportive of what I was trying to achieve and was a great advocate for me & my wishes while in labour and not able to communicate for myself.
She was also very attentive to my needs, providing hot water bottles to help with my contractions, various aromatherapy oils and was there to push counter-pressure on my hips etc when going through a contraction.
It was a great comfort to me to have Jo there and to have her support and help through each contraction. I felt like I was in safe hands and was really supported.
Antenatally, Jo was a great help too – she lent me several books and helped me craft my birth plan by providing a really useful template with prompts. She checked in with me regularly and made sure I was OK. It made a big difference to have someone there for that emotional support.I really highly recommend Jo as a doula – she’s a natural and a fantastic calming presence to have nearby and is just a really lovely, fun person as well :)Thank you Jo, for all of your help! I couldn’t have done it without you x” Becci
“Jo drove me to the hospital when my waters broke. She was my birth partner during labour and was by my side until I was moved to the ward, supporting me all the way, both physically and emotionally.
Jo is very understanding, caring and patient, and she really helped with my anxieties about the birth and in keeping me calm. She talked me through my fears and built my confidence. She really tried to understand what I needed and find the best way to support me. She never tried to persuade me to give birth in any particular way, which I really appreciated.
Jo also remained a great support after my baby was born helping me with breastfeeding and providing wonderful advice.
Jo, I can’t thank you enough for all your help. Xxx” Ana
“I can’t recommend Jo highly enough. She is kind, attentive, well-informed and compassionate – everything you could hope for from a doula. From the first time we met, I felt how passionate she is about helping women have a positive experience of birth and her support and knowledge was really valuable to me.” Maddie
