Hi, I’m Julia and I am a birth and postnatal doula and fully qualified hypnobirthing teacher, living in Leeds/Wakefield, West Yorkshire. I am the Co-Chair for Leeds Maternity Voices Partnership and I have two young children, my daughter who was born by an unplanned caesarean section in 2015 and my son who was born by a drug free VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean) in 2018. I am extremely passionate about supporting women and families during pregnancy, birth and beyond. As well as physical support during labour, my role is to act as an advocate for the birthing woman and her family. Postnatally, I can offer emotional and practical support after the birth. I can help to create positive birth experiences for you and your family, helping you to enjoy parenthood and I will support you without judgment on whatever decisions you make. It is so important to be prepared for birth, know your birth rights and be able to make informed decisions. I cannot guarantee that your birth will go as planned, but having a doula makes it more likely that you will have a positive birth experience. My goal is to give you and your family the attention and knowledge that you need to make informed decisions about your pregnancy and labour. I offer continuous support, emotional support, help you to navigate the birth and labour process and give you the TLC that you need after having your baby. After all, mothers need just as much attention as a newborn, because they too have just been born. I will support both the mother and their partner on their pregnancy, birth and postnatal journey. After the birth, partners often feel like they too need to reflect and debrief, particularly if the birth didn’t go quite as planned. Or being a new parent can be just as daunting for the partner, as it can be for the mother. I am there to support both of you.
I completed my doula training through Red Tent Doulas and I also hold a diploma distinction in postnatal depression awareness. I am a qualified hypnobirthing teacher, so I can help you to prepare physically and mentally for birth and help you to understand how you can have a calm, confident birth, where you feel in control. I have completed courses in Women’s Health After Motherhood, Maternity Care and how to Alleviating Distress of Infantile Colic. I am DBS checked, hold valid insurance and to add to my qualifications, I have a BSc (Hons) in Food Marketing Management, Msc in Food and Consumer Safety and a Level 5 diploma in Human Resource Management.
I feel honoured to be able to work with women and families and be able to share my knowledge and expertise, help them to feel empowered, make informed decisions and have a positive birth experience.
