Milana Broda-Russian speaking doula

Birth Doula

Hi, I am Milana, I have a deep desire to empower women in their right of choice in childbirth and this lead me down the path of becoming a doula.

I was born near Lake Baikal and grew up in Ural of Russia. I've lived in London since 2005.  I am a mother, wife and would consider myself to be a very loving person. I hope to become a trusted friend for a mum-to-be.

During my pregnancy, I only had my supporting husband near me and I felt a need for extra emotional support and care. It made me look for a doula who would support me in birth and help me to follow my birth plan choices. Herewith the biggest revelation during our preparation for birth was the Michel Odent’s studies about oxytocin as the “love” hormone and that women require a dark, quiet and safe environment for it to flow. It had a huge impact on me.

In preparation for your birth, I can offer help finding the right environment for your baby’s birth, educate you on birth physiology and explore all your options. I will be happy to share my knowledge how to prepare for non-medicalised birth, what to expect after, first days with newborn and baby feeding as well as postpartum self-care. I have a deep desire to support and to empower women in their right of choice in childbirth and this lead me down the path of becoming a doula. I support women in antenatal preparation, during  and after birth. In my free time I love baking sourdough bread, pottery and macrame. Hooping to learn crochet from my brilliant 87 years old grandma one day.

Testimonials

I am very happy with my decision to have Milana as my doula and I feel I’ve benefited hugely from having her at my birth.  She’s a very warm and caring person but also strong and confident at the same time.  She’s a good listener and made the whole experience very personal. I felt that she couldn’t have done more for me and can definitely say that without her my birth experience would’ve been more distressing and less calm. Also, I found the natural pain relief Milana provided during the birth was very soothing and much needed.

Anna K.   We discussed my birth plan (my dream birth plan) so well, that my labour was exactly as I wanted since my first baby! She could understand me without words. She knew how to help - for example still remember she said: Just let it go! I missed these words during my first labour. I practiced hypnobirth, but during my first labour I really missed the person who would explain me what exactly is happening to me and knew where and how to help ( for example press my hips ).  Milana knows a lot of great techniques to release the pain, and keep your mood, mind on the right direction. Another strength of Milana is that she helps the partners to help us. My husband was involved fully with Milana’s directions. With her my second labour was as perfect as I could really dreamed of. Milana is very warm person with beautiful spirit. She is a good friend and good listener.

Marina P.   Having Milana next to me was everything I needed.

During labour Milana was very gentle at the first stage. We were at home and she managed to be next to me like my extension. By using this word I mean that she was there just the exact amount I needed her to be. When a woman gives birth very often she is angry and unhappy if there are other people around her, touching her and even talking to her. Milana has that natural intelligence in her to be exactly the right amount of being gentle, yet firm and give you confidence not to be scared. During the active stage Milana showed her strong and powerful side. My partner had to stay home with our firstborn as he was sleeping so it was only Milana and me. For some this could be a stressful moment and scare the birthing woman. Having Milana next to me was everything I needed at that stage.                                                                                                                                                                             Veneta K.We hired Milana for the home birth of our first baby and are so glad we did! She made us feel really well supported and safe. Her massages during labour really helped me cope with the pain , and we really appreciated her coming over twice as I had a long latent labour. Her support also gave dad some rest and space! When having to make decisions about the labour and possible interventions, Milana reminded me of my wishes and intentions and always helped bring me back to a relaxed state. The birth experience for both of us would not have been as positive if it weren't for Milana's presence. I would highly recommend her for any birth!

Reamika and Mark. As prospective new parents enlisting the help of a DOULA can prove to be a game changer in the most positive way; especially if you are lucky enough to come across Milana in your search. As a first-time dad to be, I was a little sceptical at first as to why we needed a DOULA, however as my partner is a non-native English speaker, we decided it would be beneficial to find somebody to offer support during the later stages of pregnancy, delivery and post-delivery. Translation was initially the key driver regarding our decision to seek support from a DOULA however I can now confirm that having a DOULA alongside you during this life-changing experience of becoming new parents offers so much more than I first thought. Milana was a guiding light both prior to, during and after labour. She supported both my partner; coaching her throughout the delivery to remain calm, practice mind techniques, explain what was happening at each step as the hours went by and help ensure that we stuck to our birth plan particularly at times when medical staff apply pressure to digress, whilst allowing me as dad to feel needed, helpful and supported too. I have recommended DOULAs to a number of friends following the great experience we had with Milana and would like to thank Milana for her professionalism, friendship and support throughout this journey. She comes highly recommended!
