Rachel Cunliffe

Birth Doula & Postnatal Doula

"I cannot recommend Rachel highly enough. From our very first meeting, she exuded warmth, a calming presence and a deep understanding of the birthing process"

Hi and a warm welcome to my Doula UK page. I'm Rachel and my pronouns are she/her.

As your doula I am on your side and by your side, whatever your journey or choices look like, with empathy, kindness, and occasionally a bit of humour too. The families I support have described me as calming, knowledgeable, reassuring, considerate, easy-going, and even an octopus! (For my ability to get several jobs done at once).

It all started with my own fertility journey in 2014, then my interest and passion for birth well and truly set in when I birthed my daughter in 2017 and then my son in 2018. A challenging breastfeeding journey and postnatal period after my son gave me insight into the soaring highs and lows that come with breastfeeding, the juggle, and parenthood. If only I had understood the doula role and accessibility back then!

In 2019, I gained my Hypnobirthing diploma and have been teaching birth preparation ever since, supporting well over 200 families. I chose to do my formal Doula training in 2021 which was life-changing, and I adore all that the doula role has brought to my work with families, as well as my own growth and relationship with myself, and with friends and family.

I have attended many births including homebirth, birth centre, induction, planned and unplanned caesareans, and 2 freebirths. I am proud to have many 5 star google reviews from the families I have supported.

I truly believe in the power that comes with physiological birth, and understand many aspects of how to prepare and protect this type of birth. I also believe in choosing the birth that feels right for you, may that be a more medical birth or abdominal birth. I support and advocate for all birth choices without judgement and with love and loyalty.

As well as all things birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum, I’m a lover of lattes, a walk (especially Autumn), pasta, all music (particularly dance music), Grey’s Anatomy (a true guilty pleasure), a murder mystery, any Leonardo DiCaprio film, essential oils, and cacao as part of my daily self-care.

Testimonial - Postnatal Support I am so incredibly glad that we found Rachel. Her support was so valuable and I only wish I’d been able to have her come more! She has such a gentle nature, it was such a relief to have someone I trusted to lovingly hold my baby while I rested. She also came with me to my physio appointment and held baby in the carrier while I could focus on my appointment. She also helped around the house with all those little jobs - tidying up bits in the kitchen, folding the mountain of baby clothes, arranging the drawers, making me cups of tea etc! Perhaps the best part is having someone to listen and chat to about all the sorts of things on your mind in those early days. She listened without judgment and helped me with my breastfeeding and bottle feeding goals. I would wholeheartedly recommend Rachel to any new parents - it is the best money you will ever spend! Baby doesn’t need a load of blankets and toys - ask for contributions to doula care instead! Anna (December 2021)

Testimonial - Birth Support
In early labour Rachel helped with rebozo to help shift the intensity of the surges from bladder/pelvis to feel more manageable. She also suggested a film to pass the time, supported me to trust my own instincts to rest rather than push birth on. During established labour she helped me with counter pressure on hips and sacrum which was awesome. She held space for me & hubby making sure it was the experience we wanted, and was assertive in her lovely calm & non-threating way. Making sure the midwives understood my preferences - which as baby came so quickly was important as they had very little chance to read my birth plan! After birth Rachel was amazing. Fiercely protecting our golden hour. But also clearing up, putting down the birth pool etc. which enabled Stu to have lovely skin to skin time and also rest himself!
I'm not sure how we ever thought we could do without Rachel. She made such a huge difference to my antenatal/birth and postnatal experiences, and actually the biggest advocate now is my husband who wasn't really sure about it inititally!
