If you book me for your birth, we would begin with two informal meetings: firstly to get to know each other, and secondly to discuss your birth plans, work through any worries you might have, and generally prepare you for the wonderful adventure you're about to have. Think about the amazing job your body has done so far, and know that your body will know what to do instinctively. I want to help you relax your body and mind and trust yourself to do this. I'll then be on call for up to 3 weeks around your due date, and will join you when you're in labour, staying throughout until 3 hours after you've given birth. I'll also visit you postnatally twice, when we can chat about your experience, discuss any concerns you have about yourself or your baby, and eat cake...
I am passionate about giving mum and baby the tender care they need to rest and thrive in the first six weeks following the birth. Especially important - for both of them - is sleep. A baby's circadian rhythm is not yet developed and they will need to feed during the night as well as the daytime. I can care for your newborn at night whilst you sleep and support you on your breastfeeding journey if that is what you have chosen. I can also do light housework such as folding laundry or washing the dishes - whatever helps you get a restful night's sleep and facilitates a nurturing bond with your baby.
