Rohan Ochera

Mentored Postnatal Doula

Hello, I’m Rohan, a birth and postnatal doula living in West Norwood in South London. I’m also a massage therapist, trained cook and foodie and mum of two. I’m a warm, down-to-earth person who loves caring for people. I offer gentle, flexible support to families as they adjust to life with a new baby, helping make those early weeks feel a little less overwhelming and more manageable.

I trained as a birth and postnatal doula with Nurturing Birth in 2020. For the first few years, I worked as a birth doula with Happy Baby Community, a charity supporting pregnant women seeking asylum.

Having a baby is a huge life change, and I believe parents deserve to be looked after just as much as their new baby does. The early weeks can be wonderful, exhausting, emotional and unpredictable, sometimes all in the same day! As a postnatal doula, my aim is to offer a calm, reassuring presence, as well as emotional and practical support, so you have more time and space to rest, recover and get to know your baby.

I’m a good listener, open-minded and non-judgemental. I know that every family is different, and I won’t arrive with a set idea of how things should be done and will only offer "ideas" if you want them. I’ll take the time to get to know you, understand what matters to you and work out together how I can best help. Sometimes you might need someone to debrief with; other days, you might just need a shower, a nap, a decent meal or an extra pair of hands.  You might need support with feeding and settling baby, referrals to other perinatal practitioners and it can be helpful to have evidence-based information at your finger tips.  I’m happy to help with older siblings, too, where needed.  Essentially, I’m happy to adapt to whatever would make the biggest difference to you!

I’m also a trained cook and a real foodie, so preparing nourishing, home-cooked meals is something I particularly enjoy, whilst ticking that off your to-do list. I have a degree in Nutritional Therapy, which has given me a good understanding of nutrition and its role in health and wellbeing. I love bringing this knowledge into my cooking.

As a qualified massage therapist, I can also offer massage as part of my postnatal support, giving you some time to relax and receive care yourself, whether this is full body massage a bit further down the road or just a shoulder or foot massage whilst you feed your baby

Above all, I want you to feel comfortable having me in your home and confident that you can be yourself around me. There’s no need to have everything organised or to pretend you’re coping when you’re not. I’ll meet you where you are, without judgement, and we’ll take things one day at a time.

If you’re looking for someone kind, reliable and flexible who can offer both emotional support and practical help, I’d love to hear from you and find out a little about you and your family.

I have also completed a paediatric first aid course and hold an enhanced DBS check.
