About Me
My journey began after the birth of my first child in 2009, I was supported by the most wonderful doula and my birth experience really laid important foundations for me as a mother. I found myself informally supporting other families with their birth choices and in 2010 trained with the NCT, in 2013 I began teaching courses, preparing parents for the birth of their babies.
I undertook doula training in 2015 with Red Tent Doulas and started working as a birth and postnatal doula. I offer sessions that are flexible and creative, tailored to your own needs.
Typically my birth package involves several antenatal visits, attendance at the birth of your baby and at least one postnatal visit. I offer bespoke antenatal visits for birth preparation, these are informal and relaxed and can take place anywhere – in your own home, via Skype or in a cafe if its easier. They can include (put are not limited to) writing of birth plans, birth debrief, antenatal education and birth preparation/ birth art. They are an opportunity for us to get to know one another and develop good relationship before the birth of your baby. I am a trained mindfulness practitioner and offer a mindfulness bundle to all families I work with. I can also offer mindfulness for birth preparation sessions. My role is to provide you with the information to enable you to make informed decisions about your birth. I have experience of working with healthcare professionals and can attend appointments with you if necessary.
My experience includes supporting women and their families through home and hospital births, water birth, caesarean birth, VBAC, planned induction, planned caesrean, birth with older siblings present, taking photographs, establishing breastfeeding, lotus birth, special care, IVF pregnancies, baby loss and postnatal depression.
Postnatal sessions can include a variety of tasks to make your transition into parenthood (or as a larger family) as smooth as possible, and can include light housework, running errands, cooking, listening, signposting of services, practical baby care, self care and mindfulness for parenting.
I am involved with Bradford Maternity Voices Partnership, representing women’s voices in maternity services and have good working relationships with local hospitals. I also deliver Doula training in the North of England for Red Tent Doulas. In my spare time I enjoy going away with my two boys on camper van adventures and running in the fells. I love yoga and trying to cultivate my own mindfulness practice. I volunteer at my local primary school and have a full DBS.
I offer free consultations for any woman considering a doula to see if I am the right doula for you, please get in touch if you have any questions.
