Sara Knowles

Postnatal Doula

I am a fully recognised postnatal doula through the Doula UK recognition process and have experience in supporting twins, premature babies, mummas recovering from natural, caesarean and assisted births. I am trained in trauma healing and have helped traumatised parents to debrief their birth experiences so they can feel more positive about their experience. I have a special interest in babywearing and maternal mental health as well as supporting parents through feeding choices, no matter what their feeding journey looks like.

Hi and thank you for checking my profile. I am Sara, a mother of 2. I'm originally from Finland but lived in the UK since 2011. Becoming a mum played a huge part on me becoming a doula and leaving my corporate career in travel industry. In the heart of my doulaing is nurturing parents' confidence and emotional wellbeing.

When a baby is born, a mother is born. These are the words that really spoke to me after having my 1st baby. During those early weeks and months, often described as the 4th trimester, I would like to be there for you to support you both physically, mentally and emotionally as you recover and ease yourself into your new role as a mother. I am here to help you to find your way to mother, so you feel happy, confident and at ease with your decisions on how you wish to parent. I am happy to care for the baby whilst you rest or enjoy a bit of self care. I can cook healthy and nourishing meals or do some light housework or run errands whilst you nest and bond with your baby. I am also here to help you with any feeding or baby care questions and signpost you to researched information to support you with your choices. If you find the idea of going out or going to medical appointments on your own daunting, I will be happy accompany you.

Having experienced eventful and somewhat stressful pregnancies myself, I would be happy to support any pregnant mothers as well. I can help you with your birth choices and direct you to evidence based information about childbirth whichever way you may wish to give birth to your baby. I am great listener and a huge empath and have a non-judgemental approach to all questions and queries.

In my free time I enjoy running, binging netflix and baking. I also love plaiting hair!   My current hourly rate is £25 per hour, minimum of 2h per session. I also offer night time support so parents can maximise their night time rest. You can find more information about packages and services I offer from my webpage www.saraknowlesdoula.co.uk .

I am an enthusiast of all things 4th trimester and believe that a well planned and thought out postnatal period is the key to a happy baby and happy parents. Therefore I also offer postnatal planning sessions where we can delve into normal infant behaviour, sleep arrangements, getting feeding established and nourishing the mother's well being. I offer postnatal planning sessions for a flat rate of £55/2h. I have a range of books I am happy to borrow for some self study after the session. I own a few baby slings and carriers which I am also happy to lend and assist with so you can feel confident and comfortable wearing your baby.

I can travel within half an hour (10miles give or take) distance from Guildford. I usually offer my services  during school hours and terms, but if given enough notice I can also offer support outside those times.

I look forward to meeting you and making you feel calm, confident and connected to enjoy your early days of parenthood.
