Hi and thank you for visiting my profile. I am Sara Knowles and I’m originally from Finland, but have lived in the UK for the past 8 years. Which leads me to my doula name – Finglish Doula. I am a mum myself (daughter born 2017) which is a huge reason why I decided to change my corporate career to doulaing and helping other mums to find their way to mother. My role as a postnatal doula is to nurture my client’s confidence and emotional wellbeing.
Motherhood is amazing, but it can be also so incredibly hard. It comes with the highest of highs, but it can also bring some lows. When a baby is born, a mother is born. For those moments of self-doubt and insecurity, I am here for you. I am here with a listening ear and a shoulder to lean to. I am here to help you to find your way to mother, which can be ever so confusing with friends and family offering their opinions and advice. As a mother who is raising a bi-cultural child, I know how confusing differing advice from different cultures can be. In the world that is only getting smaller in so many ways with possibilities to travel, work and live anywhere in the world, the world is also growing with choice. Therefore I hold a special place in my heart for parents who might be having a baby away from their close friends and family or away from the culture or environment they know the best.
During those early weeks and months, often described as the 4th trimester, I would like to be there for you to support you both physically, mentally and emotionally as you recover and ease yourself into your new role as a mother. I am happy to care for the baby whilst you rest or do anything that you enjoy. I can cook healthy and nourishing meals or do some light housework or run errands whilst you nest and bond with your baby. I am also here to help you with any feeding or baby care questions and signpost you to researched information to support you with your choices. I also offer my clients a little leaflet of postnatal services available in Guildford area, but happy to do research of your local services as well, including baby groups, post-natal fitness, breast- and bottle feeding support, sling libraries, and whatever it might be that you need. And if you find the idea of going out on your own daunting, I will be happy accompany you. I am also happy to offer some basic neck/ shoulder/ back massage. I am not a trained massage therapist, but do believe in healing and relaxing human touch.
Having experienced an eventful and somewhat stressful pregnancy myself, I would be happy to support any pregnant mummies as well. I can help you with your birth choices and direct you to evidence based information about childbirth whichever way you may wish to give birth to your baby. Obviously I am also happy to offer a listening ear and some space to breath.
In my free time I enjoy yoga, running and some baking. I also love plaiting hair!
My current hourly rate as a mentored postnatal doula is £14 per hour, minimum of 2h per session. I offer a block rate of 20h for £260 and the 20h can be divided into as many sessions as you like (minimum of 2h per session). I can travel within half an hour (give of take) distance from Guildford. I offer my services during school hours and terms, but I am also happy to offer some evening and weekend sessions, but need time to arrange child care for those.
I look forward to meeting you and making you feel confident and happy to enjoy the crazy ride that is motherhood.
