My interest in birth began after having my own children, my youngest was born prematurely and it was my experience around his birth and postnatal care that led me to want to support families. I began this as a breastfeeding network supporter and then as an IBCLC working in baby feeding teams.
After working in several London hospitals as an infant feeding specialist, I was struck by the importantance of how a person felt about their birth, how they were cared for, and how this effected their early relationships. This led me to train further to help guide families in achieving the best possible birth for them, My focus is on helping you navigate labour in the way that feels right for you, ensuring you feel informed, heard, and supported throughout. Birth is one of the most important events of your life and one that will be always memorable. Although birth can be unpredictable, my aim is to help you understand your physiology and how a baby moves through the pelvis, I am an active birth teacher and trained with Janet Balaska.
I am able to offer suggestions in biomechanics, after training with Molly O’Brien, and also rebozo practices to aide your experience. I am passionate about informing couples about the wonders of birth but also outlining what can occur with interventions, to help you to understand the whole picture so that you can make the right decisions for you. My counselling background means I am a good listener and can help you explore your options. As you are probably aware the NHS maternity services are currently over stretched. My midwife colleagues do a great job, but they have to adhere to time constraints and hospital policies which often don’t leave time for individual care. This is where having a consistent person beside you on your journey can really help. I can provide evidenced-based information and be there for you, helping you to trust your instincts and feel safe and secure.
My birth package includes at least two antenatal sessions, 24- hour-a-day on call from 10 days before your EDD until your baby is born, a postnatal visit and unlimited email and WhatsApp contact from the time of booking. Im also available for walks, tea and chats in the final weeks.
I am a mum of two, and recently became a grandma! My young adults and grandchild are constantly teaching me new things and helping me to grow as a person 😄
