Sophia Amissah

Birth Doula

My name is Sophia and I’ve been a recognised birth and postnatal doula since 2014 and I love it !

Welcome! I’m Sophia,  a mother of five and deeply passionate about supporting women and families through the transformative journey of pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period.

With a nurturing heart and  many years of experience, I offer holistic, intuitive, and informed care to help you feel confident, empowered, and supported throughout. My aim is to walk beside you – offering encouragement, guidance, and practical support – so your experience into motherhood feels as enriching and positive as possible.

I believe that women are innately powerful and beautifully designed to birth. However, I also recognise that today’s maternity system can often feel clinical, rushed, or fear-based. It saddens me to see how many women approach birth with anxiety, rather than trust in their bodies and the process. I am committed to helping change that narrative – through education, presence, and continuity of care.

Whether you’re planning a home or hospital birth, I will support you and your partner every step of the way. I’m here to help you relax, feel prepared, and make informed choices. I provide antenatal sessions tailored to your needs, covering everything from birth physiology, pain relief options, placenta decisions, birth planning, breath work to breastfeeding .

Of course, many of us hope for a natural, straightforward birth – but sometimes, birth takes a different path. I’ve supported many families through more medicalised journeys, and I’m here to help you navigate appointments and conversations with your health care provider. I know that preparation and evidence based knowledge are key to feeling positive and in control, whatever direction your birth takes.

My birth services  include:

  • Personalised antenatal sessions
  • Birth planning support
  • Continuous labour support (home or hospital)
  • On-call availability two weeks either side of your estimated due date
  • Postnatal check in shortly after birth

Postnatal care is a separate offering and plays a vital role in your physical and emotional recovery. We will explore what this looks like in our preparation session too. My postnatal support is nurturing, gentle, and tailored to meet your needs during this time. Especially beneficial if you don’t have family support near by.

Postnatal services include:

  • Daily or weekly visits (3–4 hours)
  • Breastfeeding support
  • Infant care and settling
  • Nourishing meals and healthy snacks
  • Light home help
  • Time for you to rest while I care for your baby
  • Encouragement, companionship and care

If you have older children, I’ll help you all navigate the adjustment that a new baby brings with compassion and practical support.

I give myself wholeheartedly to the families I work with. My loyalty lies with you, and it’s always an honour to be part of your birth and postnatal journey.
