About Me
I’m Sophie and I am a mentored Birth and Postnatal Doula in Buckinghamshire.
It’s aways a privilege to be a part of birth and postnatal experiences, every one is unique and special. I will support every mother/ family with kindness and empathy, helping you feel nurtured, empowered and listened to throughout your pregnancy and labour. During our antenatal meetings we can discuss any aspect of pregnancy, birth physiology and issues such as navigating the NHS, comfort measures, postions for birth and more, so that you feel informed and prepared for the journey ahead. Feeling respected in your choices can make an enormous difference to the overall perception of your birth experience, those feelings can stay with you for years.
My commitment is to support your birth preferences, however and wherever you wish to birth your baby. In labour I will be there to help you (and your birth partner if you have one) practically, physically and emotionally, staying until after your baby has arrived and you feel confident for me to leave. My experience includes hospital and homebirth.
As a Postnatal Doula I will help you in those first magical days and weeks of parenthood to find your feet and to grow in confidence. To listen over a cup of tea, cook a meal, hold a baby….or hold a parent as I know the postnatal period can sometimes feel overwhelming. I’m practical, can help with light housework, care of other children, walking a dog or shopping. Sometimes I have stayed with families for many months or, in a couple of cases, years!
Some families need help at night and this is something I offer as a Postnatal doula . It can be invaluable for helping to recover from birth and feeling able to cope with energetic toddlers the next day. If you are exclusively breastfeeding I can bring your baby to you and when a feed has finished you can sleep while I change and settle your baby back to sleep. I have worked overnight with several sets of twins and babies born prematurely.
I’m also a Norland Nanny with 30 years experience, during this time I worked with families from birth right up to teenagers, and worked part time as a Teaching Assistant in an independent school in London. One of my oldest nanny charges has just become a father which I am so excited about. I love cats, cooking and gardening…..and babies!
I do regular Continuing Professional Development courses to keep up to date, the most recent ones have been Moxibustion, SANDS Supporting Baby Loss, Hyperemesis Gravidarum and LQBTQIA+ inclusion. I have an up to date DBS, insurance and full Paediatric First Aid.
I often work around these towns: Abingdon, Amersham, Aylesbury, Beaconsfield, Berkhamstead, Bicester, , Chesham, The Chalfonts, Didcot, Gerrards Cross, Great Missenden, Henley, High Wycombe, Marlow, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Princes Risborough, Thame, Tring and Wendover. I’m happy to travel an hour or slightly more from where I live.
The hospitals within the area that I work are Stoke Mandeville, The John Radcliffe, Milton Keynes, Wexham Park, Watford General, and also the stand alone birthing centres in Bucks, Oxon, Bucks and Herts.
