Welcome to my profile. Congratulations on your news and on your decision to get yourself a doula!
I am a pregnancy, birth and postpartum doula working in and around London and the surrounding areas, offering in-person and online support. I hold an enhanced DBS certificate and am St John Ambulance Pediatric First Aid Trained.
I am a member of various doula collectives, so I have access to even more collaborative expertise and experience than just my own, ensuring well-rounded care and support for you at all times at this pivotal moment in your life. I do not replace medical care, I complement it, working alongside your clinicians to ensure you feel heard, understood, and that you fully understand all your options.
I have four children and am in constant work with mums and babies, so am always learning even more! I am a pregnancy and postnatal yoga teacher and a dance instructor, but I always have time for new clients and adjust my schedule accordingly, so that everyone has the time and energy they need from me.
Giving birth is an experience that will have a profound impact on your body, your psyche and your outlook on life for the rest of your life, one way or other….ask anyone who’s had a traumatic birth and sadly there are many.
So why not plan to make one of the most significant experiences of your life into something positive, empowering and physically exhilarating rather than go it alone and leave it to chance or the day / the hospital / the staff on shift.
I can do this with you. From a position of experience, having experienced 4 positive pregnancies, labours, births and post partums, and 23 years of raising four happy and successful children, I believe that with the right preparation, knowledge and above all mindset, a great birth experience IS possible, regardless of your history, genetic makeup or relationship situation.
I’m not saying I had 4 completely drug free, home births with babies breathed out into my partner’s arms to rainbows and birdsong. Birth is messy, often painful and usually unpredictable. But I did have four positive pregnancies with quick births, for which I prepared mentally and physically and at which I look back as the ultimately greatest, most magical experiences of my life. All of them. Sometimes the most adverse circumstances can make for the most empowering births, and sometimes the most unremarkable circumstances can become remarkable by a positive birth experience.
We can’t control everything in life...especially things involving other human beings. And from the moment we conceive a child, we are guardians of a force of nature, that try as we might, will always do their own thing and find their own way! But as parents, we are there to guide and love, and the better educated, informed and supported we are, the better equipped we are to make choices that can help make any situation as positive and smooth as can be, and to rise to the challenges it might bring.
My role is to help you understand and enjoy your pregnancy and to prepare you as fully as possible for the arrival of the little person inside you, however they decide to make an appearance. I believe whole heartedly in living life to the full and making the best of what you've got, and this is reflected in my approach as a doula and as a mother.
I believe in bringing a positive approach to even the most challenging situation and in supporting a woman during pregnancy and birth, to work with her body and mind to achieve what can be the most empowering experience of her life: motherhood.
With preparation, movement, exercise and consistent support, I know that a happy, healthy pregnancy and labour is achievable. By availing you of your rights and choices, it will be my pleasure and privilege to guide you through your journey to birth, working together with your partner, your wider family and any healthcare or medical professionals on board too.
As a doula, I will support, facilitate, care and inform. I make no judgment whatsoever about how you choose to birth and feed your baby, only to support you through those choices, advocating where needed, providing options, encouragement and back up plans!
I can offer antenatal and postnatal care, birth attendance, all of the above or some of the above.
I have worked in both the state and private sector, with both working and stay-home mums, with women in extreme hardship and also with high networth women, all from every walk of life; but throughout, my only aim is to provide continuity of care, calm and choice, to help you achieve the birth you want and to equip you for labour, childbirth and motherhood with confidence and grace.
