Hello, I’m Tara.
I am based in Bristol and have been working as a Birth Doula and Holistic Therapist for 8 years. It’s an honour to have been welcomed into the lives of many families over this time.
I recognise that when people are having babies, it is an incredibly intimate and powerful time of change for them, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to have shared on so many different journeys with my clients.
In my experience I have seen that the path to parenthood (whether for the first time or not) can be so many different things – from beautiful and joyful, to challenging and confusing. I see, over and over again, that when people feel heard, supported and loved, receiving the information and education that’s right for them in their particular circumstances, they have the best opportunity for a wholly empowering and positive experience, before, during and after birth.
I have attended various hospital, birth centre and home births in Bristol and the South West. I educate women and their partners in physiological birth and consider with my clients in depth which birth choices are right for them, fully supporting and advocating for them around their informed decisions.
In the lead up to the birth we will work together, either in person or online, so that I can get to know you and any other birth partner you may have. I can help you access information, so you can create a birth plan that’s right for you, supporting you to move through any fears, understand the birth process, and prepare you with tools for comfort and relaxation, whatever form your birth takes.
As a doula I see it to be important to encourage partners to step into whatever role they wish to have in the birth, or it may be that I can fill the role they really don’t wish to have! However things are, we can consider it all openly together as a team.
If you wish for me to be with you throughout the birth I will offer continuous calm care and support. I am available to help create and hold whatever birth space you wish for, as well as to help you ask questions of your care-providers and to advocate for you if needed. I can offer (or teach partners) massage, acupressure and rebozo, for comfort through labour and will help keep you (and your birth partner) fed and watered!
After the birth I am available to support the baby’s first feed and will stay until you and your baby are settled, if I am with you. I will then visit in person or via video call to see how you are getting on postnatally, debrief the birth with you and signpost to any other support if needed. I also offer Postnatal Massage, Closing the Bones Massage and Vaginal Steaming for postnatal recovery, all of which are incredibly healing and nurturing after everything your body and mind will have done!
I see the importance of Mother/Father/Partner and Baby bonding at this most precious time of life and recognise how it can directly contribute to a better and more loving world. As a doula I see it to be my duty to help facilitate this at every opportunity in the best way I can.
I work as a Thai Yoga Massage Therapist, offering home visits in Bristol, so can also provide pregnancy massage to help your body and mind relax at this important time in your life.
You will also be very welcome to join an online Mama Circle that myself and another doula run each week. This is beautiful way to meet, stay connected and get support from other mothers and mothers-to-be.
Visit my website and feel free to be in touch for a free consultation, to see if we might be a good fit for one another.
Wishing you all the best for your birth and parenting journey.
What a couple of my clients have said:
“Tara offered and gave so much support through the pre-labour phase in forms of walks, massage, psychological insights, information and tips about hypnobirthing and at no point overloaded me with stuff. She is an amazing listener. It was such a joy to have Tara there. She was a rock for my partner and her calm, organised manner as well as here amazing pressure massages were invaluable. At no point did I feel out of control, not even when it eventually ended up in theatre for a forceps delivery. Thanks to her there was so much room to feel really connected with my partner as she took care of pretty much everything.” New Mum (Anon)
“Tara is such a profoundly gifted and natural support to anyone in any circumstance and she is in her element in the magical realm of childbirth. Her total uncontrived devotion to others is palpable in just the first moment of meeting her. Tara’s effortless discernment around when to step up and when to step back in her role as a doula is such a golden gift. We can’t thank her enough for everything she has done for us and our two babies. For this, and in any case, she will be in our hearts forever.” 2nd time Dad (Henry)
* * * * COVID-19 UPDATE * * * *
Despite the Coronavirus outbreak, I am still available to support families as a Doula and Holistic Therapist, where I can work within current Government guidelines.
Support at this time is more important than ever, so although some of my offerings have transitioned to being online, I am still doing whatever I can to support in person where it’s needed.
Babies will continue to be born and people will continue to need the support of doulas, offering loving continuity of care and education, at this important and powerful time of life!
Feel free to visit my website taralovingcare.com and be in touch to enquire about how support could look for you in your specific circumstances.
