My name is Uduak Udondem, and I live in North West London with my three children.
I am fortunate to love the work I do as a Birth Doula, supporting and advocating for women to deliver their babies into this world safely and confidently. Since beginning my doula journey in 2005, trained by Paramala, a student of Michel Odent and Liliana Lammers under Doula UK, I have provided holistic, non-medical care, offering emotional and physical support while empowering women with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions. In addition to my work with families, I am also a Birth Doula Mentor, guiding new doulas in developing their skills and confidence in this rewarding field.
My own birthing experiences inspired my path into doula work. The differences between my first birth in a Birth Centre and a homebirth taught me the value of intuitive preparation, choosing the right support, and incorporating complementary medicine, herbs, and breathwork during labour. What truly seeded the importance of the right kind of support was my mother’s presence at my first birth—her calmness and stillness amidst the turmoil of labour left a lasting impression on me. In my work, I bring that same calm, steady presence, knowing how powerful it can be.
My mother’s story also shaped my understanding of support during pregnancy. Pregnant with me in Ghana and far from her family in Nigeria, she found comfort in the friendship of a woman named Uduak, who supported her throughout her pregnancy, labour, and birth. That legacy of care has inspired my work, and I strive to provide that same nurturing presence to the women I support.
Over the years, I have expanded my services to include Pregnancy Massage, Postnatal Massage, Arvigo Therapy, and Yoni Steaming. I am a certified yoni steaming practitioner with Steamy Chick Institute since 2018 and have completed training in lymphatic and myofascial therapy. My training in pregnancy and postnatal massage from Gateway School equips me to support women through the physical and emotional transitions of motherhood.
My prenatal massage practice has allowed me to extend my doula role in a nurturing massage setting, creating a safe space where clients feel comfortable sharing their experiences and needs. This integration of touch therapy and doula support enhances the emotional and physical well-being of the mothers I work with.
I incorporate breathwork and gentle touch exercises into my care, helping clients relax deeply and activate their parasympathetic nervous system, promoting rest and overall calm. I also offer guidance on nutrition and nourishment for postpartum healing, with a dedicated resources page for postpartum nutrition, including detailed lists of nourishing foods and herbal tea recommendations.
After stepping back from doula work in 2014 to prepare for motherhood for the third time, I had a wonderful homebirth in 2015, starting my postnatal period with a lotus birth. This experience deepened my understanding of self-care and the importance of slowing down during the postpartum period. I learned to appreciate traditional postpartum techniques like belly wrapping and yoni steaming, which enhance healing and bonding, and I have continued to expand my knowledge in these areas from various cultural perspectives.
I have worked in diverse birth settings—inductions, Caesareans, Water Births, home births, and even free births. I’ve supported women in hospitals and Birth Centres across London, including Queens Charlottes, Royal Free, Chelsea & Westminster, St Mary’s Paddington, University College Hospital, Whittington, Whipps Cross University Hospital, Kings Hospital, Guy’s & St Thomas Hospital, and Central Middlesex. I’ve also supported families in Surrey for home births and birth centres.
In addition to birth support, I offer a 4-week postpartum therapy programme, which includes healing yoni steam sessions and nourishment guidance. I’m passionate about empowering women on their wellness journey, helping them achieve balance and confidence in every stage of motherhood.
