Emma Gleave

Mentored Birth Doula & Mentored Postnatal Doula

Becoming a mother changed my life in profound ways. During my first pregnancy and birth in 2009, I made the decision to have an independent midwife. It was a choice I’ll always cherish because of the personalised care, continuity, and deep level of support I received throughout my pregnancy and birth. Having someone by my side who truly knew me and understood my needs was incredibly empowering, and it gave me the confidence to approach birth and motherhood with a sense of calm and trust in my body. That experience inspired me to completely change my life, and to support other women in feeling the same level of empowerment and care that I did. Since then I’ve dedicated years to training and gaining experience across a wide range of areas to offer comprehensive support for families.

I have a degree in Antenatal Education and have many years experience teaching with the National Childbirth Trust, but have now moved into independent practice.  I am a trained Baby-Wearing Consultant, Pregnancy and Post-Natal Yoga Teacher and Shiatsu Practitioner and have undertook CPD in Integrating Self Hypnosis, Birthing for Blokes, Red Tent Doula Preparation, and much more.

My children have been a mixture of Home and Steiner Waldorf educated, and I am due to qualify as a level 5 Steiner Early Years Practitioner in September 2025 - I feel this overlaps beautifully and naturally with my birth and postnatal work, especially around the 4th trimester and attachment parenting.

I am saddened that many of the options that were available to me during my pregnancies and births are slowly being eroded, as our NHS services become more and more understaffed, overstretched and risk focussed.   For 10 years I campaigned tirelessly for better maternity services, but to no avail - I now prefer to focus on 1:1 support and ensuring women are fully informed and empowered to make decisions that are right for their own body, baby and family.  We can not wait for others to change, we can only change ourselves - and I am here to support you in making the best choices for you and your family, in these difficult times.

Part of the year I live in an Offgrid Birth-Keepers community in South Spain supporting the 9 month Path to Midwifery Course.  I am UK based from April to October, hence my availability however if we are a good match I have flexibility and am willing to travel.
