Hello, my name is Niki and I am a doula and a mama to two beautiful boys. I am a second generation birth worker and it is no surprise to me that I was drawn to do this work. I grew up near San Francisco California, where my mother was a home birth midwife and founder of Natural Resources. I remember when my mother would be called to a birth, I always felt an excitement and sacredness, a feeling of womanhood and mystery. I still have that feeling today and I am honored and privileged to be a part of the truly awesome transformative journey into motherhood that is birth.
Birth and Motherhood today can be an isolating experience. We no longer live in communities where we can draw from the experiences of our sisters and aunties and wise women. I believe a doula can help to fill that gap in community.
