About Me
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my profile and considering how doula support might make a positive difference to your pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience.
A little bit about me
I’m Amelie, a mum of 2, and have been supporting women and families in the perinatal period for the past 10 years through yoga for pregnancy and birth, yoga for postpartum recovery, baby massage & baby yoga classes and 1-1 support.
A lot of my work and support so far has involved the kind of support that doulas offer before and after birth, so I’m now ‘officially’ widening my services to include birth and postnatal doula support, and offer the full continuity of care from pregnancy to postpartum I so deeply believe in.
I came onto this path through my own experience of pregnancy, birth and motherhood, the ups and the downs, the joys and the challenges, during which I found yoga and other body-based practices really supportive and transformative: it positively impacted my comfort levels it completely transformed how I felt about birth, how connected I felt with my babies, how I healed postnatally and move forward as a mother. So much so that I decided to make this my work, my purpose (leaving a career in education and diplomacy behind!).
My approach to doula support
I believe doula support is first and foremost about offering you non-judgemental, fully personalised support & advocacy based on your individual wishes, concerns, needs and preferences,
and establishing a connection of trust with the women & families I support. that’s why, after our initial chat (and if you feel I’m the right person for you), I will spend time to get to know you and understand you and your wishes, the ‘why’ behind these, so I can best support you. As your doula, my endeavour will be to make you feel deeply heard, cared for, empowered and supported as you navigate this unique, precious and pivotal time in your life.
I support all types of births, whether you are hoping to birth at home, in a birth centre or at hospital, vaginally or by caesarean birth. My sole agenda is to help you feel safe, informed, supported and respected in your choices throughout.
For women hoping for a vaginal birth, I am passionate about facilitating birth physiology and trained in various modalities including biomechanics for birth to support the birth process.
This said, I feel equally passionate about helping you feel and remain at the centre of your care and experience if you are electing to have a caesarean birth, or should your birth unfold that way.
As a yoga teacher, I firmly believe in the benefits of (at least some!) body-based preparation and care, hand-in-hand with evidence-based information and practical support, and integrate my expertise in somatics/movement, yoga for pregnancy, pelvic health and postpartum recovery, as well as a baby massage and hands-on nurturing practices instructor as part of my support.
Every support session I offer will be different depending on what your needs are but might therefore include guided movement, breathing techniques, self-massage, guided relaxation, partner support techniques, postpartum recovery practices, baby holds/massage/stretches amongst other things.
As your doula, I will also help you navigate the sea of information about birth and babies that surrounds us all (which can be really overwhelming and confusing) to guide you towards the resources and information that you feel you need, whilst supporting you to find your own way and connect with your own’ inner’ instincts and expertise (which you might not realise you have).
Through my own history and past work, I also have experience supporting anxious and/or long-awaited pregnancies.
Types of support
I offer stand-alone birth support, stand-alone postpartum support, as well as ‘full’ birth & postpartum support packages that can be entirely tailored according to your needs.
Birth support packages include at least 2 antenatal sessions (at least one in person), and one postpartum visit. I will be on-call from 38 weeks until you give birth, and be available throughout your period of support via emails/text
Postpartum support packages include at least 15 hours of support, to be used in increments of 3-4 hours minimum, and ideally (but not exclusively) starts/takes place within the first 6 to 12 weeks after birth, to best utilise and support you through that potent ‘golden window’ of early postpartum and the foundations of your life with and relationship with your baby.
More details of all my packages and what they include can be found on my website: https://www.firsttofourthyoga.co.uk/surrey-london-doula-support
