About Me
Congratulations on your pregnancy or recent arrival to your little one!
Pregnancy, birth and early motherhood are precious, one-of-a-kind, transformational times in your life.
Experiences that will stay with you for the rest of your life, and gateways into in your new role as a mother, and your relationship with your baby.
Magical yet vulnerable times during which you deserve to be well informed, deeply supported, and empowered to approach this time in a way that works and feels right for you.
Whether you are looking for birth or postpartum support, my endeavour as a doula is to nurture, guide and support you physically, emotionally and practically, in a mindful, non-judgemental way, to help you navigate this pivotal time in your life with more ease, joy and trust in yourself and your baby. Just as it should be.
A little bit about me
I’m mum of 2 living in Ham on the Richmond/Surrey border, and have been supporting women and families in the perinatal period for the past 10 years. It is through my own experience becoming a mother that I came to work in this field, first as a baby massage and perinatal yoga teacher, then expanding my services and support to include doula work.
There is not a day I don’t regret not having a doula to support me for my first very difficult birth despite what I thought was quite thorough preparation (with the usual antenatal course, reading and movement classes), and my crash-landing into motherhood that followed. A time that really brought home how little I knew, and how hard it can be to parent without support.
I went on to experience a magical second birth and much softer, joyful postpartum, which really showed me that these important thresholds can be beautiful and much easier with the right understanding, preparation and support in place.
My approach to doula support
I support all types of births, whether you are hoping to birth at home, in a birth centre or at hospital, vaginally or by caesarean birth. My sole agenda is to help you feel safe, informed, supported and respected in your choices throughout.
I strongly believe:
-
in fully individualised care: no two people, pregnancies, births, babies are the same. As your doula, my number one priority will be to get to know you and understand your situation, needs, wishes, concerns and any particular fears or challenges, meeting you exactly where & how you are.
-
in the importance of understanding & supporting birth & postpartum physiology: helping you understand how your body and your baby ‘work’, during and after birth, however you’re hoping/ or end up giving birth (whether vaginally or by caesarean birth), is one key element to help you navigate your pregnancy care, birth options, postpartum period and early parenting with more awareness, calm and confidence.
-
in preparing and looking after your body and mind: and integrate my experience and approach in perinatal yoga & movement, birth biomechanics, mindfulness and nurturing techniques for baby in all of my doula work. Depending on your individual circumstances and needs, this might include exploring: breathing techniques, deep relaxation, mindfulness practices, pelvis mobilisation, pelvic floor awareness/work, release techniques, biomechanics for birth, postpartum recovery practices, baby massage, baby holds and comforting practices, and more!
-
that how you came into this pregnancy matters: and will always affect to some degree your pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience. I have experience supporting women & families with anxious and/or long-awaiting pregnancies, including after IVF/assisted conception and loss, and can share extra tools to support you.
-
that establishing a strong feeling of connection and trust with the women/families I support is the foundation of truly effective doula support
-
As your doula, I will also help you navigate the sea of information about birth and babies that surrounds us all (which can be really overwhelming and confusing) to guide you towards the resources and information that you feel you need, whilst supporting you to find your own way and connect with your own’ inner’ instincts and expertise (which you might not realise you have).
