About Me
UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2021 – We are now offering all services as per normal. Wearing a mask if you prefer.
My husband and I have three children, Ellie (born after being induced at 42 weeks), Joe (natural, hypnobirthing at a birthing centre) and Matilda (emergency c section). My varied experiences have led me to have an interest in the birthing process and a desire to help other people achieve the birth they want! My research has led me to read and learn more about the natural process which our bodies were made to do. I aim to support people with the decisions they make and help to arm them with the knowledge and confidence to believe in themselves. I will work with your midwife and birth partner to ensure you feel safe, secure and empowered during the birthing process. I will do my best to make sure your needs are at the centre. As a post-natal Doula I am also keen to help families enjoy those first few weeks with their new born which can be a challenging and emotional time but will also bring plenty of joy. I aim to ease the family into their new life by offering comfort and support, whether it be practically or emotionally. I am open to discussing how I can help in the best way to support the mother/father and their new baby. In my previous ‘career’ I was a childminder for 9 years, caring for children of all ages in both my own and their homes. I have had a varied career starting in Marketing Agency in London to running my own small businesses, and running my own ebay shop; doing what I can to bring in an income while I remain there for my children. I am now ready, and feel privileged to take on my passion as a Doula. Just a little bit about me personally__. I love to go running and most things outside__ especially with the family, bike rides, camping, pub lunches__ My husband and I studied hypnobirthing for my 2nd and 3rd births so I am happy to help other couples wishing to use the technique. I trained as a Birth and Post Natal Doula with Nurturing Birth __ Feb 2013 Practical Skills to Prevent and resolve Malposition in birth – Unlocking Birth – April 2015 Practitioner Training in Mindful Mamma Hypnobirthing – Feb 2017 I am a recognised Birth Doula and have supported over 70 births including home births, both planned and unplanned, some completely natural with no medical intervention or internal examinations. I have also supported c sections, one where I have been present in theatre, VBACs, first time mums, 2nd and 3rd time mums. I have supported induction of labour, epidurals and hypnobirths! A recent client decided to stay at home at the last minute, rather than go to the hospital as planned, she had a raw, natural home birth with midwives in attendance. I’ve also supported a homebirth before midwives arrived, keeping mum and grandma calm until the midwives’ arrival. All my clients are happy to provide references. I aim to provide evidence-based, inclusive care to all parents; those who become pregnant through IVF, BAME families, everyone from the LGBTQ+ community, single parents, surrogate parents, those living with disability, parents undergoing a termination of pregnancy to whatever reason. I welcome you all. I am a recognised Postnatal Doula and have worked for a variety of clients. My postnatal clients have all employed me for longer than expected and are happy to provide references. I offer a calm and friendly service, ensuring that women and their partners gain in confidence and strength over the first few weeks or months post partum. I am a Doula UK Mentor where I support new Doulas through their journey to DUK Recognition. I offer support and time for reflection during their Doula development. Client Feedback: “I simply couldn’t have done it without her! She was there for me physically and emotionally, and I couldn’t have asked for more. ….she was just wonderful (to quote Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way).. I can’t thank her enough! I would recommend her to everyone!” “Hiring Julia as a Birth Doula was some of the best money we spent in our pregnancy journey, and I can’t recommend Julia, and Doula-ing in general, enough.” Highly Highly recommended.” This is from a first time Dad. Please see my website for further testimonials. http://www.doulajulia.com/ Shared Care Doula Support I also work part of a “Doula Collective” – St Albans Doulas; with Elisabeth Grover, Joan Mills and Lucy Barnett, a team of Doula UK Recognised Doulas and antenatal teachers, working together to provide Doula support throughout your pregnancy, birth and in those precious days afterwards. We have found that shared care works for families who would like to take advantage of the complementary skills and experiences two Doulas can offer, but for the same price as hiring one. Two Doulas support you antenatally but one Doula supports your birth. As a collective, we also offer extra services to help support you during your pregnancy and afterwards in the important post-partum weeks. Hypno-birthing, pregnancy reflexology, calming massage and post-natal support are offered by members of the team.
