About Me
Hi, my name is Khalilah and I am passionate about all things birth. I believe that birth is a beautifully sacred journey and one that parents should be fully supported in. Every birth is unique and special in its own way whether it’s your first or fifth, so my role is to adapt and help support this process in whichever way I am needed.
I listen from a place of openness to help identify your preferences and support your decisions. I also work with partners to support them in approaching birth with confidence and empower them to empower you. I also love meeting and working with the rest of the family, whether that be siblings or grandparents and if you are approaching this birth alone, I can be all those things to you and more so there is no dip in the love and support received!
I am known for my calm and confident nature as well as my cooking skills! I have also been often told that my presence alone in a room has created a positive shift. I am fiercely passionate about ensuring that a mother and families choices are heard and followed and trust in the wisdom of women’s bodies and babies’ intelligent design to have a wonderful birthing experience – no matter how or where you choose to have it!
Having a doula ensures continuity of care, non-judgemental support and access to information so you feel empowered to make informed choices and consent. It also means advocacy, someone who can hold and protect space for you and an extra pair of hands which is invaluable especially in those first few weeks after birth!
More about me:
For as long as I can remember, babies have always been a big part of my world. Growing up in a community and culture where child birth and supporting women and families has always been apart of the fabric that holds us together, becoming a doula was like second nature to me as I have always been fascinated by pregnancy and the journey of labour and birth.
I come from a long line of women who have always supported birth from my great grandmother being the only midwife in her district, helping a plethora of women in holistic traditional birth (because at the time there were no hospitals) to my own mother who is also a doula! With all this experience running through my veins, I believe that I am able to provide an individualised perspective on the support I offer to each family I work with.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me and I look forward to meeting, working and supporting you on your birth journey!
Testimonials:
“Khalilah was a godsend after I had to go back to work shortly after bringing my baby home. He was born two months premature and I was extremely nervous at the thought of leaving him with anyone, but Khalilah made me feel reassured straight away, having had experience with premature babies. As well as helping me with childcare, she accompanied us and provided support when my little one had his first vaccinations. She was also on hand to advise with things like administering medication and dealing with reflux. With her warm and friendly personality, she was extremely diligent when looking after Lenny and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her.” – Postnatal Client
“It’s hard to describe to a couple considering a doula what exactly you’ll get out of the experience, until you’ve had one and think “How could we have not had one?!”
Having Khalilah at our side was an absolute gift to our birth experience. We went into spontaneous labour at 34 weeks (completely out of everyone’s window of expectation), but Khalilah quickly made herself available, and was with us in hospital straight away.
Within 12 hours, we’d had a natural birth, small tear, no intervention and delivered a healthy baby (albeit one who needed a kickstart with some help to his under-developed lungs).
Throughout the entire process, Khalilah was there with us – supporting both me and my husband in what we needed. Rest? Let’s get you some. Food? Let’s get you some. Information? Water? Birth ball? Music? Photos? She was everywhere, one step ahead of us.
In the active part of our labour, she was massaging, comforting and literally holding us up. She reassured us and instilled us with confidence, but didn’t become the main character – she advocated for us and our midwife to perform our roles to the fullest. We know we will have a lasting relationship with Khalilah, with postnatal support & some nannying of Elio as he grows, as well as (if we’re so lucky) her presence at any future births. What we loved most about Khalilah is she’s just so sound. If you want a doula who is really grounded, completely intuitive and not overly “alternative” – she’s your girl. Cannot recommend highly enough! This woman is an angel.” – Birth Client
