About Me
Hi, my name is Kim (she/her). I am a birth and post natal doula, pregnancy and post natal yoga guide, Hypnobirthing teacher, coffee lover, foodie and all round birth enthusiast! I live almost exactly halfway between Bristol and Bath with my husband, my daughter and 2 delightfully chatty guinea pigs. My mission is to provide wraparound, person-centred care through your pregnancy, birth and post natal period. I want your feelings of trepidation to transform in to trust! Trust in your body, trust in the process, trust in yourself.
I’ve come to birth work through my own rollercoaster journey to parenthood. I have always had a rocky relationship with my own body…but to cut a long story short, my pregnancy and birth experience taught me that my body is actually pretty smart. I believe that knowledge really is power – Hypnobirthing in particular opened my eyes to what my body was actually capable of (spoiler: it’s likely much more than you realise!) and the choices I had in my maternity care (another spoiler: also many more than you realise!!) These things were really powerful contributors to my positive birth experience and these things just need to be shared wider!
I am Continuum doula, which means I offer a comprehensive package of support that allows plenty of time for true person-centred care. I have chosen to work in this way because I believe continuity of care to be vital through pregnancy and birth. When I first met my community midwife I was horrified to learn she wouldn’t be at my birth. This really frightened me – I wanted someone I could trust, someone who knew me – and this is not often readily available in our current maternity system.
I offer 6 pregnancy sessions in which we may explore birth plans, evidence based research, coping mechanisms, debrief previous experiences, fourth trimester preparation including infant behaviour expectations and feeding choices…these sessions are completely tailored to your needs so the options are almost endless!
I will be contactable by phone or text as soon as you book me and I will be on-call from around 37 weeks until birth. I will attend birth wherever you choose – home, birth centre or hospital – and I will come to you whenever you feel is helpful and then stay until you are tucked up with baby.
As part of my package, you will receive 6 post natal sessions (or 12 hours). I aim to visit within the first 24-48 hours to help you settle in to family life and support early feeding, and then more regularly as you choose across the first 6 weeks. Feeding support, holding the baby to make space for self care (anything as simple as a shower!), light house work, meal prep; again, these sessions will be tailored to what you most need as a family. I have trained with Barnardos as a breastfeeding Peer Supporter.
My comprehensive wraparound package is currently offered at £1800. For most families I have worked with, this covers a 4-6 month period of support. I offer free 30 minute connection calls on-line or meetings in person to see if we are a good fit for each other, which can be booked via my website.
If you chose to work with me I have no agenda – other than to support you in finding your own way in to parenthood. Birth is a transformational experience, however it unfolds for you. I do not believe there is one way to birth, but I do believe birth can be a smooth, powerful and even enjoyable experience! Equipping yourself with a toolbox of things to support you through the journey, makes this experience much more likely. I will support you to explore the things you hope for and that will stack the odds in your favour of having a positive and empowering experience.
Ultimately, I want more people to have a positive pregnancy, positive birth and appreciate what their bodies are capable of.
Kind words:
“Working with Kim before, during and after the birth of our second daughter was the best decision we could have made. She is very non-judgemental, knowledgeable and validating. Having her on our team gave us the confidence to plan the home birth that we wanted (even when the system seemed stacked against us). Her unwavering support helped us keep our cool when navigating choices and decisions during the long days after our ‘due date’ and before baby’s arrival. She was a calm presence during the birth, contributing to what was a completely positive and empowering experience. She continued to provide fantastic practical and emotional support in the weeks post partum. Once you start working with Kim, she is always on hand for a chat or a text, responding to your worries or talking through your concerns. We feel the benefits of having sought the extra level of support that Kim brought to us as a family, during this precious and challenging transition in our life, and would wholeheartedly recommend her to others looking for a doula” KN.
“Kim was utterly fantastic as our Doula! We had a home birth and having Kim there in the weeks before and after has been no end of help in making us feel supported with our new baby. She was such a calm and reassuring presence during the birth. It was just such a relief to know that she was there and had our backs! Plus she made us the best bacon sandwich of our lives just after our baby girl was born! Thank you Kim!” JLJ
