About Me
Hi! I am Philippa, AKA Bosom Buddy Doula. 😊
Thank you for looking at my page. Please do get in touch if you’re considering doula support for birth and / or postnatally. We can have an informal chat about what you’re looking for and see if I’m the doula for you!
Becoming a parent – whether for the first or fifth time – is a transformative and beautiful time and brings with it ups and downs that we all need reassurance and support with. My aim is to ensure that you feel confident, informed and safe throughout the antenatal, birth and postnatal period. You can count on me to provide nurturing care and emotional support to you and your family as you travel this exciting road.
I am passionate about women’s and birthing people’s rights. Always, a friendly face and loyal supporter, I believe my role as a doula is to help you ask the right questions, so that you are as prepared for birth as you can be – fully informed so you can decide what is right for you!
My most important role during birth is to help you achieve a positive birthing experience, no matter what twists and turns it takes. Whether it’s a planned homebirth, hospital or Caesarean birth; if you can look back and feel positive and happy about it, then my work is done! We prepare for this by meeting for antenatal sessions and getting to know each other. I will listen to your wishes and hopes for your birth and be by your side every step of the way. We can discuss your birthing preferences, go through the birth process and think about how you would like me to support you (and your partner) during labour.
And after birth, your little person (or people!) will be here and your parenting journey begins! As your postnatal doula, I will ‘mother the mother’ and be that trusted support person as you find your feet.
My aim is to help you develop your confidence as a parent, providing reassurance and supporting you to trust your instincts as you find your own parenting path. I am passionate about breastfeeding support, which, although so natural, is not always easy. I am about to start training in Mindful Breastfeeding and am excited to be bring this to my practice as a doula. I aim to help you reach your personal breastfeeding goals and will support your feeding choices, whatever they look like to you. I can also provide any practical help you may desire, whether that’s holding baby while you shower or rest, cooking a meal, light housework or running errands. The idea is to protect the mother / baby dyad and to leave you free to concentrate on getting to know your baby!
Growing up in New Zealand I can remember always being fascinated by birth and babies, and worked as a Nanny for some years. On moving to the UK, I ended up working as an Executive Personal Assistant in the media and travel industry for many years. Now, I’ve been lucky enough to be able to follow my dream and retrain, and I truly believe I have found my calling as a doula.
Choose me and it will be my absolute privilege to walk alongside you at this special time. If you think I could be the doula for you, please get in touch to arrange a no obligation introductory chat over a cuppa (or Zoom!). As a mentored doula I currently offer a reduction in fees for both birth and postnatal bookings and am always happy to discuss your budget and find a way to help.
