About Me
Hello, my name is Sara. I am a 50 year old mother of four grown up girls and the grandmother of one beautiful boy. I live in a little rural village on the outskirts of Doncaster with my husband, one of my daughters (who loves her home comforts too much) and our cats and dogs. I myself have had a hospital birth, a home birth and then back into hospital for a twin birth in which one of my twins was breech. I have experienced many ups and downs of pregnancy and have had experiences both good and bad in labour. When My Grandson was born I was there to support my daughter. I was able to help her stay as comfortable as she could. I was there to cheer her on when she felt she couldn’t go on. I was there to give her a voice when she felt she wasn’t heard. I was there not just as her mother but as a woman who both knew and understood what she was going through. For 10 years I was a Registered Childminder and the Chairperson of The Goldenhar Syndrome Family Support Group (one of my twins was born with GHS). Once my girls had all grown and they no longer needed me at home I wanted a change of direction. I am now a Birth and Postnatal Doula as I wanted to help support women just like I had my daughter. I believe that a woman should have the choice in how she wants to give birth. She should be allowed to listen to her body and do what she feels is best for her and her baby. I remember being overwhelmed and struggling when I brought my babies home. I wish more than ever that I had had a doula who could have helped me adjust to my new life. Not just for practical things like housework, breastfeeding support, bathing etc but for a friendly face. Someone just to chat with or even have a cry with. I am certain that a Postnatal Doula would have made my life so much easier and a lot happier. It is the biggest honour for someone to ask you to be present at the birth of their child. I will always be your biggest advocate whilst making sure that you are fully informed of everything that is happening during your labour. Thank you for taking the time to read my Doulaography and I wish you all the best in your pregnancy. Sara x
