About Me
I’m Serena; a Marlow based qualified nct teacher and Doula UK doula. I’ve had three children of my own, now all grown-up. The first birth was initially going very well indeed, instinctively and naturally but become highly medicalised when her previously unknown breech position was discovered. My second babe, and third, were born without any intervention at all and were beautifully natural and simple though still in a hospital setting.
I absolutely love both teaching antenatal classes and being a doula.
My doula role I believe, is to nurture the mother-to-be and her partner with caring, practical support in those last few weeks of pregnancy and throughout the labour and potentially in the days afterwards on home visits if required.
A doula really can enable a woman to feel empowered, so much so that birth really can be a satisfying and rewarding experience, albeit intense and challenging at times, for her and her partner. All the couples I’ve supported so far all feel very glad they chose to book a doula. References are of course available.
Being taken into a couples’ confidence is a great privilege, in return I offer continuous emotional and practical support to allow the transition to parenthood to be a gentle and happy one.

As a guide after an interview with me if you wish to engage my services we arrange two pre-labour meetings (at least two hours each approx.) and we plan the care for throughout labour, whilst at home and moving on if birth is planned at a birth centre or hospital. I am a masseuse so ask if you would like some relaxing massage at end of our meetings. After your baby is born and when you’re ready I discreetly slip away when you feel you are settled. We conclude with a two hour (approx.) follow-up postnatal get together in those early days, for practical help or just cuddles and talking. I love baking so cakes, flapjacks or lactation cookies will often be gifts from me when I visit you!
