Delegates at the Doula UK Conference on Saturday 19th March are invited to attend two workshops during this dynamic day of learning for doulas and midwives, breastfeeding supporters, antenatal teachers, health visitors, OBGYNs and anyone supporting women and families in the perinatal period and beyond.
Three workshops will take place during the morning session, and will be repeated in the afternoon – giving each delegate the opportunity to attend two workshops.
Kate Greenstock – Birth your Business into Being (or watch it fly!)
Doulas – is it time to nudge your birth business out of the nest? How will it look when it is really flying? And what might happen if you get clear on what you stand for and who you most want to work with? This is an invitation to look afresh, and explore the Why, How and What of your doula business (in that order) in workshop format, with practical insights and strategies to take away. For newer or experienced doulas.
Kate is a certified coach and facilitator, enabling mothers re-imagine their work lives and contribution to the world. Her great desire is to witness women’s rawness and authenticity come to the fore in their thriving small businesses. She is also a Doula UK birth doula, based in Kingston upon Thames.
Katherine Woodbury – Beaded Birth Lines
Join Katherine, Doula UK doula from
Frome, Somerset, for a 90-minute workshop to create a Beaded Birth Line- a unique and tactile teaching aid that is used to demonstrate all of the different phases of labour to expectant parents.
All participants can share and learn from each other as we string them and discuss each phase- with a group of doulas its going to be a real melting pot of knowledge!
Katherine will weave in facilitation tips and tricks along the way so you can take them home and get started straight away! Each set of beads comes with a guidance sheet so you can remember what each bead represents.
Indira Lopez-Bassols – Infant Feeding Workshop
Demystifying Tongue ties (anterior and posterior) and the plethora of symptoms they produce, this session will look at defining Ankyloglossia (tongue tie) and exploring the plethora of symptoms that they can cause in the breastfeeding dyad. Although doulas are not trained to perform intra oral digital examinations to evaluate tongue function, doulas work very closely with breastfeeding dyads from birth and can spot some of the breastfeeding problems tongue ties can produce, and, doulas can refer appropriately if needed.
Indira has been involved in breastfeeding support for more than one decade. Starting as a La Leche League Breastfeeding Counsellor, she currently co-leads the LLL Wimbledon group. Passionate about providing quality assistance on breastfeeding and lactation, Indira became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 2011. She is both Director of and teacher on the Breastfeeding London Course (90 lactation specific education hours) for health care professionals and breastfeeding supporters. Indira also worked at Kings College Hospital ‘s Tongue Tie Clinic for two years. Indira has been working as a birth doula for over a decade, is a Doula Mentor and a Doula trainer and has been a teacher of Iyengar yoga for 13 years.
